The earliest start of the week

Saturday is the one day the estate opens early on purpose. Of the 295 shops whose hours we have verified, 294 are open by 09:00 and 250 by 08:30, and 81 of them open earlier on a Saturday than they do on a Monday. Only one verified shop in the entire estate opens later than 09:00 on a Saturday.

The reason is the shape of the betting day rather than the shopping day. Saturday morning is when accumulators get written, when the coupon trade happens, and when the early prices on the televised races are taken, so the first hour of trading matters commercially in a way that an extra hour on a Tuesday does not. A shop that opens at 09:00 on a weekday and 09:30 on a Sunday will often be unlocking the door at 08:00 or 08:30 on a Saturday.

It also means Saturday is the safest day to assume a shop is open when you set off. On a Sunday, more than a fifth of verified branches are still shut at 09:30. On a Saturday, effectively all of them are trading by then.

What a Betfred Saturday actually looks like

Two openings dominate and they are only half an hour apart: 08:30 and the other one. The closing time is where branches diverge, running from 20:00 to 22:00.

The Saturday card, hour by hour

Knowing a shop opens at 08:30 is less useful than knowing whether it will be open when you need it. A Betfred Saturday has recognisable pressure points, and the search results above check each nearby shop against all of them, so you can see at a glance which branches cover the part of the day you care about.

Earliest, latest and longest Saturdays

Earliest Saturday opening

Four shops open at 07:30, a full hour before the estate norm.

Longest Saturday trading

Fourteen and a half hours in the 07:30 to 22:00 shops, and fourteen in the large group opening at 08:00.

Shortest Saturday trading

The exceptions, almost all of them explained by a shopping-centre unit or a quieter suburban pitch.

Saturday against Sunday

The weekend is not one thing at Betfred. Among the verified shops, Saturday averages 12h 53m and Sunday 11h 22m, and the difference is almost entirely at the start of the day rather than the end. 263 shops open later on a Sunday than on a Saturday, and in 122 of them the gap is a full hour; 55 open ninety minutes later on the Sunday. Only 32 open at the same time on both days.

That makes the two days ask different questions. On a Saturday the question is whether the shop is still open late enough for the evening football; on a Sunday it is whether it is open early enough at all. If you want the whole weekend picture for a particular branch, its own page carries all seven days, and our Sunday opening times page does the same analysis from the other end.

England, Scotland and Wales

Saturday is the most uniform day of the week across the three nations. The verified Scottish sample actually averages marginally longer than the English one, and nothing in Scottish or Welsh law changes what a betting shop may do on a Saturday.

Verified Saturday hours by country
CountryVerified shopsAverage Saturday Most commonShops on it
England27412h 53m08:00–22:0079
Scotland1413 hours08:00–22:005
Wales712h 47m08:30–20:303

The verified sample is weighted towards England, so treat the Scottish and Welsh rows as indicative.

Shopping centre branches

Saturday is the day a shopping-centre unit looks most like a high-street shop, because centre hours on a Saturday are generous — typically 09:00 to 18:00 or later. The constraint bites at both ends all the same: a centre that opens at 09:00 stops its Betfred unit joining the 08:00 club, and one that closes at 18:00 rules out the evening football trade. The single verified shop that shuts before 20:00 on a Saturday is a precinct unit in Oldham. Branches that look like centre units are flagged in the search results.

How confident each time is

Verified — 295 shops whose weekly hours, including the Saturday, come from published branch times. Every statistic on this page is calculated from these shops only.

Standard pattern — 1,110 shops we have not verified individually, shown on the estate’s usual Saturday shape as a working expectation rather than a fact. A further 21 shops have no hours at all and say so.

Saturday is the day where the standard pattern is least likely to mislead you, because the estate is so consistent at the start of the day: an unverified shop is very probably open by 09:00. The close is the part worth checking, since that is where verified branches range across two hours. Each row links to the shop’s Google listing so you can cross-check before a late trip.

Frequently asked questions

What time does Betfred open on a Saturday?

Almost always before 09:00. Across the 295 shops whose hours we have verified, 08:30 is the most common Saturday opening with 125 shops on it, 250 are open by 08:30 and 294 of 295 are open by 09:00. Only one verified shop opens later than 09:00 on a Saturday. Four open at 07:30.

What time does Betfred close on a Saturday?

The close is where branches differ. 137 of the 295 verified shops trade until 22:00, and the rest finish at 20:00, 20:30, 21:00 or 21:30. Only one verified shop closes before 20:00. If you are planning to bet on evening football, the closing time is the figure to check rather than the opening.

Is Betfred open earlier on Saturday than in the week?

In many shops, yes. 81 of the verified branches open earlier on a Saturday than on a Monday, and only one opens later. The average Saturday runs 12h 53m against 12h 55m on a Monday, so the day is a fraction longer as well as earlier.

Will my Betfred be open for the 13:30 on ITV?

Almost certainly. 295 of the 295 verified shops are open at 13:30 on a Saturday, 295 are open at 15:00 for the football kick-offs, and 230 are still trading at 20:00 for the evening card. Search your postcode above and use the Will they be open at… buttons to mark each nearby shop against those times.

How do Saturday and Sunday hours compare?

Saturday is longer and starts earlier. The verified average is 12h 53m on a Saturday against 11h 22m on a Sunday, and the difference is nearly all at the start of the day: 263 shops open later on a Sunday than a Saturday, 122 of them by a full hour, and only 32 open at the same time on both days.

Why is Saturday the busiest day in a betting shop?

Because everything lands at once. Saturday carries the biggest racing card of the week including the televised ITV meetings, the traditional afternoon football programme, the coupon and accumulator trade that goes with it, and an evening of greyhounds and European football. The early opening exists to catch the morning accumulator trade rather than passing shoppers.

How do I find my nearest Betfred's Saturday hours?

Type any UK postcode, town, city or village into the search box at the top of this page, or tap Use my current location. You will get the twelve closest shops with Saturday hours for each, sortable by earliest opening, latest close or longest Saturday, and each one checked against seven points of the Saturday card.

Are these Saturday times confirmed?

The page labels which are which. 295 shops carry hours verified from published branch times and are flagged verified; the remaining 1110 are flagged standard pattern, meaning we show the estate's usual Saturday because that branch is unconfirmed. Saturday is the day where that assumption is safest at the start of the day and least safe at the close.

Do shopping centre branches keep different Saturday hours?

Sometimes, and it cuts both ways. Centre hours on a Saturday are usually generous, but a centre opening at 09:00 stops its Betfred unit opening at 08:00, and one closing at 18:00 rules out the evening trade. The single verified shop closing before 20:00 on a Saturday is a precinct unit in Oldham.

What happens when a bank holiday weekend falls on a Saturday?

The Saturday itself is unaffected and trades normal Saturday hours, including Boxing Day 2026, which falls on a Saturday. It is the Monday that changes, when most shops move to Sunday-style hours. Our bank holiday page covers each of those dates individually.
