Before you travel: the times on this page follow Betfred’s standard high-street pattern. Individual shops occasionally change them for staffing, refurbishment or big events, so if you are heading over late in the evening, check the Betfred store finder first.

Weekday opening times

Opening and closing times do not change from Monday to Friday: 09:00 to 22:00 every weekday.

Betfred High Street, Monday to Friday.
WeekdayOpening timesNotes
Monday09:00 – 22:00Quietest day for queues. Early race cards draw a handful of regulars.
Tuesday09:00 – 22:00Steady through the afternoon; busier once the offices empty out.
Wednesday09:00 – 22:00Busy around kick-off on football nights; otherwise a steady midweek day.
Thursday09:00 – 22:00European football and evening racing keep the shop ticking over late.
Friday09:00 – 22:00Busiest weekday: lunchtime and after-work visitors, plus weekend accas.

Weekend opening times

The weekend times bookend the weekday pattern: 08:30 on Saturday, 09:30 on Sunday.

Betfred High Street, Saturday and Sunday.
DayOpening timesNotes
Saturday08:30 – 22:00Earliest open of the week, ahead of the day’s racing and the 15:00 football.
Sunday09:30 – 22:00Opens at 09:30, with Sunday racing and live football through the afternoon.

Weekends at Betfred High Street are driven by the football. Saturday lunchtime through to the early-evening results is the busiest stretch; Sunday is calmer until the afternoon kick-offs.

Bank holiday opening times

Betting shops in Scotland may trade on every bank holiday, with one exception. Under the Gambling Act 2005, every betting premises licence carries a condition that the premises cannot be used to provide gambling facilities on Christmas Day, so this shop is closed on 25 December by law rather than by choice.

Elsewhere in the calendar, expect either normal times or a slightly shorter day. Here is how the bank holidays usually look at Betfred High Street.

Easter opening times

Easter is business as usual for betting shops in Great Britain. Good Friday opening has been lawful since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force and Easter Sunday carries no restriction, so Betfred High Street keeps its standard times over the long weekend.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

British racing on Good Friday is now a fixture, with the All-Weather Championships finals run on it since 2014, and Easter Monday brings a packed programme of jumps meetings, so both days are lively in the shop.

May bank holiday opening times

There are two May bank holidays: the early May Monday and the spring bank holiday at the end of the month. Both are normal Monday trading days here.

Both May bank holidays fall on a Monday, so the date shifts each year.

Summer bank holiday opening times

The August bank holiday brings a full racing programme and, most years, Premier League football, so the afternoon is the busiest part of the day.

In Scotland the summer bank holiday is the first Monday in August, not the last. The date shifts each year.

Christmas opening times

Christmas and New Year are when the times here change. The shop cannot open on Christmas Day, closes early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and trades near-normal days in between, when some of the biggest meetings of the winter are staged.

The Christmas Day closure is a licence condition under the Gambling Act 2005. Next dates update automatically.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is a normal opening time with an early finish, typically around 18:00, so staff can get away for the evening. The last cash bets go on well before then. It is a full racing day, so the shop is often busy through the middle of the afternoon before emptying out sharply.

Boxing Day

Boxing Day brings the King George VI Chase at Kempton and a full national racing card, which makes it one of the busiest days of the year in Ayr. The shop opens as normal and usually closes at about 20:00.

New Year opening times

New Year’s Eve

A normal morning start and an early finish at around 18:00. Bets for the New Year’s Day racing are best placed in the afternoon.

New Year’s Day

The shop usually opens a little later, around 10:00, and closes around 20:00. With a full programme of jumps racing, it is still a busy trading day.

The festive times shown here are the usual Betfred pattern rather than a confirmed timetable for Ayr. Branches post their own Christmas times, usually from mid-December, so check the window notice or the Betfred store finder before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December.

How the live opening times panel works

The panel at the top of this page reads the clock in the UK and compares it against this shop’s trading times, so the status, the closing time and the countdown are always current. It runs on the same times published in the tables above. Three things are worth knowing about how it behaves.

What the status means

The flag reads Open during published trading times and Closed outside them. While the shop is closed, the countdown shows the time until it next opens; while it is open, it shows the time until closing, which matters most in the last hour.

Last bets and settling up

Staff stop taking cash bets shortly before the published close so they can settle slips and cash up. To collect winnings, arrive at least ten minutes before the doors shut.

Getting there

Use the buttons at the top of the page to open the shop in Google Maps, plot a route from your current position, or preview the street in Street View. Ayr station is about seven minutes’ walk south, with trains to Glasgow Central and along the coast. Buses from the High Street serve Prestwick, Troon and the villages of South Ayrshire.
