Betfred Durham Road, Birtley opening times
Betfred, Unit 2, 8-9 Durham Road, Birtley, Chester-le-Street, DH3 2PG. Licensed by Gateshead Council, with the premises licence held by Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Limited.
This Betfred is on Durham Road in Birtley, the village’s main shopping street. Although the address is given as Chester-le-Street, Birtley is in the borough of Gateshead. Like most Betfred branches, it trades until 22:00 seven days a week.
| Day | Opens | Closes | Time open |
|---|
Why 22:00? Betting premises licences in England and Wales carry a default condition under the Gambling Act 2005 that bars gambling between 22:00 and 07:00 unless the licensing authority removes it, which is why most high-street bookmakers close at 22:00. Individual branch times can still change at short notice, so check before a late trip.

Bank holiday opening times

Outside Christmas Day, a bank holiday at Betfred Durham Road, Birtley is either a normal trading day or a slightly shorter one. The detail is set out below.
Easter opening times
There are no legal restrictions on betting shops opening over Easter in Great Britain: Good Friday trading has been allowed since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force. Expect normal times across the four days.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |

Christmas opening times
The Christmas fortnight is the one stretch of the year when times at this shop genuinely differ from the weekly pattern. Christmas Day is a legally enforced closure. How the live opening times panel works
The panel at the top of this page reads the clock in the UK and compares it against this shop’s trading times, so the status, the closing time and the countdown are always current. It runs on the same times published in the tables above. Three things are worth knowing about how it behaves.
What the status means
Open means the shop is inside its published trading times right now. Closed means it is outside them, and the countdown switches to show how long until the doors open again. If the shop is due to close within the hour, the countdown is the number to watch.
Last bets and settling up
Staff stop taking cash bets shortly before the published close so they can settle slips and cash up. To collect winnings, arrive at least ten minutes before the doors shut.
