Bank holiday opening times
Betting shops in England and Wales may trade on every bank holiday, with one exception. Under the Gambling Act 2005, every betting premises licence carries a condition that the premises cannot be used to provide gambling facilities on Christmas Day, so this shop is closed on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
Outside Christmas Day, a bank holiday at Betfred West Heath Shopping Centre is either a normal trading day or a slightly shorter one. The detail is set out below.
Easter opening times
From Good Friday to Easter Monday, expect the normal weekly pattern in West Heath. Good Friday trading has been allowed since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | 08:30 – 22:00 |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | 09:30 – 22:00 |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
Good Friday has carried British racing since 2014, when the All-Weather Championships Finals Day was first staged on it, so there is a proper afternoon card alongside football and greyhounds. Easter Monday is one of the fullest jumps racing days of the spring.
May bank holiday opening times
Both May bank holidays, the first Monday and the last Monday of the month, run on normal Monday times at Betfred West Heath Shopping Centre.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
August bank holiday opening times
The August bank holiday brings a full racing programme and, most years, Premier League football, so the afternoon is the busiest part of the day.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
Christmas opening times
Christmas and New Year are when the times here change. The shop cannot open on Christmas Day, closes early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and trades near-normal days in between, when some of the biggest meetings of the winter are staged.
| Day | Date | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | 09:00 – 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | 09:00 – 20:00 |
| 27 to 30 December | Between the holidays | — | Normal times, close 20:00 – 22:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
| New Year's Eve | 31 December | — | 09:00 – 18:00 |
| New Year's Day | 1 January | — | 10:00 – 20:00 |
Christmas Eve
Expect the usual 09:00 open and an early close at around 18:00. Racing runs through the afternoon, so the busiest spell is the middle of the day; by early evening the shop is quiet.
Boxing Day
Boxing Day brings the King George VI Chase at Kempton and a full national racing card, which makes it one of the busiest days of the year in West Heath. The shop opens as normal and usually closes at about 20:00.
New Year opening times
New Year’s Eve
Expect an early finish on 31 December, usually about 18:00, after a normal morning start. The evening is quiet, so get any bets on during the day.
New Year’s Day
On 1 January, Betfred West Heath Shopping Centre normally opens around 10:00 and closes around 20:00. There is a full jumps racing programme, so it is a proper trading day, just a shorter one.
Festive times vary slightly from branch to branch. Betfred West Heath Shopping Centre normally puts its Christmas times in the window from mid-December; check them, or the Betfred store finder, before a trip on 24, 26 or 31 December.
How the live opening times panel works
The status panel at the top of the page works from the current UK time and the published times for Betfred West Heath Shopping Centre, so the open or closed flag, today’s close and the countdown are always current. A few details on how it behaves:
What the status means
The flag reads Open during published trading times and Closed outside them. While the shop is closed, the countdown shows the time until it next opens; while it is open, it shows the time until closing, which matters most in the last hour.
Last bets and settling up
Staff stop taking cash bets shortly before the published close so they can settle slips and cash up. To collect winnings, arrive at least ten minutes before the doors shut.
Getting there
Use the buttons at the top of the page to open the shop in Google Maps, plot a route from your current position, or preview the street in Street View. Buses along Holmes Chapel Road run into Congleton town centre in a few minutes. Congleton station is about two miles south-east, with trains to Manchester and Stoke.
