This Betfred is in the Westgate shopping centre in the west of Morecambe. It is a neighbourhood shop with a regular crowd. Like most Betfred branches, it trades until 22:00 seven days a week.
| Day | Opens | Closes | Time open |
|---|
Before you travel: the times on this page follow Betfred’s standard high-street pattern. Individual shops occasionally change them for staffing, refurbishment or big events, so if you are heading over late in the evening, check the Betfred store finder first.
Weekday opening times
Weekdays run from 09:00 to 22:00, a thirteen-hour trading day.

| Tuesday | 09:00 – 22:00 | Evening greyhound and all-weather racing runs through to close. |
| Wednesday | 09:00 – 22:00 | Busier after 19:00 when the evening football kicks off. |

| Saturday | 08:30 – 22:00 | The week’s busiest day, from the morning racing to the late football. |
| Sunday | 09:30 – 22:00 | A slower morning, then busy for the afternoon kick-offs. |
Saturday is comfortably the busiest day at this branch. If you want a machine or a seat for the afternoon racing, arriving before midday makes a real difference.
Bank holiday opening times
Bank holidays are normal trading days for betting shops in England and Wales, with a single legal exception. The Gambling Act 2005 attaches a condition to every betting premises licence that rules out gambling on Christmas Day, so 25 December is a closure by law.
Elsewhere in the calendar, expect either normal times or a slightly shorter day. Here is how the bank holidays usually look at Betfred Westgate Shopping Centre.
Easter opening times
From Good Friday to Easter Monday, expect the normal weekly pattern in Westgate. Good Friday trading has been allowed since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | 08:30 – 22:00 |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | 09:30 – 22:00 |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
Good Friday has carried British racing since 2014, when the All-Weather Championships Finals Day was first staged on it, so there is a proper afternoon card alongside football and greyhounds. Easter Monday is one of the fullest jumps racing days of the spring.
May bank holiday opening times
Both May bank holidays, the first Monday and the last Monday of the month, run on normal Monday times at Betfred Westgate Shopping Centre.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
August bank holiday opening times
The late summer bank holiday falls on the last Monday in August and coincides with a heavy afternoon racing card, so expect the shop to be busy from lunchtime.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
Christmas opening times
Christmas and New Year are when the times here change. The shop cannot open on Christmas Day, closes early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and trades near-normal days in between, when some of the biggest meetings of the winter are staged.
| Day | Date | Next date | Opening times |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | 09:00 – 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | 09:00 – 20:00 |

| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | 09:00 – 22:00 |
| New Year's Eve | 31 December | — | 09:00 – 18:00 |
| New Year's Day | 1 January | — | 10:00 – 20:00 |
Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve at Betfred Westgate Shopping Centre usually means a 09:00 open and an early close at about 18:00. Racing fills the afternoon, so that is the busiest spell; if you need to collect winnings, go before late afternoon.
Boxing Day
Boxing Day is the busiest single day in the betting shop calendar. Expect a full morning open and a strong afternoon around the King George VI Chase at Kempton, with a slightly earlier close than a standard Saturday.
New Year opening times
New Year’s Eve
On New Year’s Eve, Betfred Westgate Shopping Centre opens at its usual time and closes early, generally around 18:00. Bets on the next day’s racing are best placed in the afternoon.
New Year’s Day
New Year’s Day is a bank holiday with a later start than usual, typically around 10:00, and an earlier close in the evening. There is a full jumps racing card, so the shop is open and trading, just on a compressed day.
The festive times shown here are the usual Betfred pattern rather than a confirmed timetable for Westgate. Branches post their own Christmas times, usually from mid-December, so check the window notice or the Betfred store finder before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December.
How the live opening times panel works
The live panel checks UK time against the trading times in the tables above, so the open or closed status, today’s closing time and the countdown update every second. Here is how to read it.
What the status means
The flag reads Open during published trading times and Closed outside them. While the shop is closed, the countdown shows the time until it next opens; while it is open, it shows the time until closing, which matters most in the last hour.
Last bets and settling up
Staff stop taking cash bets shortly before the published close so they can settle slips and cash up. To collect winnings, arrive at least ten minutes before the doors shut.
Getting there
Use the buttons at the top of the page to open the shop in Google Maps, plot a route from your current position, or preview the street in Street View. Buses along Westgate run into Morecambe town centre and to Heysham. Morecambe station is a little under a mile north-east.
