Bank holiday opening times

Bank holidays are normal trading days for betting shops in England and Wales, with a single legal exception. The Gambling Act 2005 attaches a condition to every betting premises licence that rules out gambling on Christmas Day, so 25 December is a closure by law.

On all other bank holidays, Betfred branches generally run either their normal times or a shortened day. The tables below set out what to expect at Betfred Oxford Street.

Easter opening times

Betting shops have been permitted to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no legal restriction on Easter Sunday trading in Great Britain. Expect this shop to run a normal weekend pattern across the Easter weekend.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve at Betfred Oxford Street usually means a 09:00 open and an early close at about 18:00. Racing fills the afternoon, so that is the busiest spell; if you need to collect winnings, go before late afternoon.

Boxing Day

Boxing Day is the biggest day of the year for high-street bookmakers, built around the King George VI Chase at Kempton and a card of meetings across the country. The shop opens as normal and closes a little earlier, around 20:00.

New Year opening times

New Year’s Eve

A normal morning start and an early finish at around 18:00. Bets for the New Year’s Day racing are best placed in the afternoon.

New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day is a bank holiday with a later start than usual, typically around 10:00, and an earlier close in the evening. There is a full jumps racing card, so the shop is open and trading, just on a compressed day.

Festive times vary slightly from branch to branch. Betfred Oxford Street normally puts its Christmas times in the window from mid-December; check them, or the Betfred store finder, before a trip on 24, 26 or 31 December.

How the live opening times panel works

The live panel checks UK time against the trading times in the tables above, so the open or closed status, today’s closing time and the countdown update every second. Here is how to read it.

What the status means

When the panel shows Open, the current UK time falls inside today’s trading times. Closed means it does not, and the countdown then runs to the next opening instead of the next close. Within the final hour, keep an eye on the countdown.

Last bets and settling up

Cash betting at the counter stops a few minutes before the published close while staff settle slips and cash up. If you have winnings to collect at Betfred Oxford Street, get there at least ten minutes before closing.

Getting there

Use the buttons at the top of the page to open the shop in Google Maps, plot a route from your current position, or preview the street in Street View. Swansea station is about ten minutes’ walk, and the bus station is a couple of minutes away.
