Blackburn is a four-shop town, and one branch dominates it. Railway Road, beside the station and the Mall, opens earliest and closes at 22:00 every single day of the week, Sunday included — three hours later than either of the other two branches whose times we can confirm. Whalley New Road and Mill Hill run shorter neighbourhood hours, closing at 21:30 and 21:00 on weekdays and as early as 18:30 on a Sunday. The Audley Range branch is listed further down: it is open and licensed, but its weekly times are not published anywhere we can verify.

The 3 Betfred shops in Blackburn with published times

Every Blackburn Betfred whose full weekly times we can confirm, ordered by distance from the town centre. Each row shows today’s times, whether the shop is open now and how long until it closes, with buttons for the map pin, a route from where you are and Street View of the shopfront.

Directions work without this. Sharing your location re-orders the list nearest-first.

Each of these three carries its own published weekly times, and they sit in three different parts of the town: Railway Road in the centre by the station, Whalley New Road on the climb north towards Seven Trees and Little Harwood, and New Wellington Street in Mill Hill to the south-west. The fourth branch, on Audley Range to the east, is listed in its own section below. Distances are straight-line estimates from the town centre. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.

Blackburn Betfred opening times compared

The full weekly pattern for the three timed branches, with the Audley Range row shown for completeness. Today’s column is highlighted.

No two Blackburn branches share a pattern. Railway Road is a fourteen-hour shop six days a week and still closes at 22:00 on a Sunday. Whalley New Road keeps the same 09:00 start on a Saturday as on a weekday but trims the evening by half an hour. Mill Hill does the opposite, opening half an hour earlier on a Saturday and staying open half an hour later, which makes Saturday its longest day of the week.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Blackburn

This section covers the three branches with published times. Audley Range is excluded because its hours are unconfirmed.

Open earliest

Railway Road is the earliest in the town on every day of the week: 08:30 on weekdays, 08:00 on a Saturday and 09:30 on a Sunday. Whalley New Road and Mill Hill both open at 09:00 Monday to Friday, with Mill Hill moving to 08:30 on a Saturday. Neither opens before 10:00 on a Sunday.

Open latest

Railway Road again, at 22:00 seven days a week. Whalley New Road closes at 21:30 on weekdays and 21:00 on a Saturday; Mill Hill closes at 21:00 on weekdays and 21:30 on a Saturday. So after 21:30 on any evening, Railway Road is the only Betfred open in Blackburn.

The one to remember: 21 Railway Road trades until 22:00 every day of the week, including Sunday. Of all the towns covered on this site, it is one of the few single branches that outlasts its neighbours by a full three hours on a Sunday evening.

Betfred Blackburn Sunday opening times

Sunday is the day the town divides most sharply: one branch runs almost a full day, the other two close before the evening kick-offs finish.

Railway Road opens at 09:30 and runs to 22:00, twelve and a half hours. Whalley New Road opens at 10:00 and closes at 19:00, and Mill Hill closes at 18:30 — both before a 16:30 Premier League kick-off has finished being settled. For a Sunday evening bet in Blackburn, the town centre is the only option.

Betfred Blackburn bank holiday opening times

Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all four Blackburn branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.

On the other bank holidays, Blackburn branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would cut two hours off Railway Road’s evening. Dates in the tables below update automatically.

Easter opening times

Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Blackburn branch to follow its usual pattern for that day. The Grand National at Aintree, about 35 miles away, falls in early April and is the busiest betting day of the year in East Lancashire shops.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

May and August bank holidays

The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before, particularly at Railway Road, where an early close makes the biggest difference.

All three fall on a Monday, so the dates shift each year.

Christmas and New Year opening times

The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Blackburn times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.

The Christmas Day closure is a licence condition under the Gambling Act 2005. Next dates update automatically.

Each Blackburn branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.

How the live opening times work

Everything live on this page reads the clock in Blackburn (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.

The panel at the top

The top panel covers the three Blackburn branches with published weekly times. It tells you how many are open right now, which is next to close, and how long until the last one shuts for the night. After the last close it switches to counting down to the first shop opening the next morning. Audley Range is left out of the count because its hours are unconfirmed; including it would make the panel wrong rather than incomplete.

The shop rows

Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Times not published means we have no confirmed hours for that branch. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.

Map, directions and Street View

Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all four Blackburn branches, Audley Range included.

Betfred on Audley Range

The fourth Blackburn branch sits on Audley Range about a mile east of the town centre, on the parade near the Post Office and the Boots at numbers 98 to 116. It is open and licensed, but we have not been able to confirm its weekly times, so it carries no live status.

Directions work without this. Sharing your location re-orders the list nearest-first.

The map, directions and Street View buttons all work for this branch, and it is included when you use the location button, so it will still come up as your nearest shop if you are in Audley or Little Harwood. What we cannot do is tell you whether it is open right now. Betfred’s shop line for Blackburn branches is 0800 032 0878, and the window card will carry the current times. If you know them, let us know and we will add the live row.

Betfred near Blackburn

Blackburn sits in a tight ring of East Lancashire mill towns, each with Betfred branches listed under its own post town rather than under Blackburn.

The closest is Darwen, where the branch on Market Street is about four miles south. Oswaldtwistle on Union Road and Accrington are next, roughly four to five miles east, with further branches at Great Harwood, Rawtenstall in Rossendale, Burnley, Nelson, Colne, Barnoldswick and Clitheroe. Longridge, north of Preston, is the nearest in the other direction. Directory listings sometimes fold several of these into a single “Blackburn” count; this page covers only the four shops with a Blackburn address, all licensed by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

If you are heading for Darwen or Oswaldtwistle rather than Blackburn itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the four Blackburn branches, which may not be the nearest Betfred overall once you are outside the borough.

Other bookmakers in Blackburn

Blackburn has around 18 betting shops in total, so Betfred’s four make it the third-largest chain in the town behind William Hill and Ladbrokes.

William Hill has the widest spread, with shops at 102–104 and 450–452 Whalley New Road, 345–347 Accrington Road and 15–17 New Chapel Street in Mill Hill, the last of these a few doors from the Betfred. Ladbrokes trades at 61–62 Church Street in the town centre, a minute from the Railway Road Betfred, and at Ewood Mill on Bolton Road near the football ground. Coral has shops at 1–3 Dyson Street and 83–85 Bank Top, both on the western side of the centre.

We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Blackburn, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Church Street and Railway Road, and New Chapel Street and New Wellington Street in Mill Hill, are the two places in town where you have an alternative within a couple of minutes’ walk. Every bookmaker in the town is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about 30 miles south of Blackburn. The Blackburn four are a classic mill-town spread: one town-centre shop doing the long hours, and three neighbourhood shops on the main roads out. Railway Road sits beside the station and the Mall; Whalley New Road climbs north through Seven Trees towards Little Harwood; Audley Range runs east towards Knuzden; and New Wellington Street serves Mill Hill in the south-west, the closest branch to Ewood Park.

For travellers, 21 Railway Road is the one to know: it is a couple of minutes from Blackburn station and the bus interchange, and the only Betfred in the town open past 21:30 on any night. On matchdays at Ewood Park, home of Blackburn Rovers, the Mill Hill branch on New Wellington Street is the nearest at about two thirds of a mile, with a Ladbrokes at Ewood Mill closer still to the ground.

Frequently asked questions

How many Betfred shops are there in Blackburn?
Four Betfred betting shops carry a Blackburn address, all licensed by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council: Railway Road in the town centre, Whalley New Road at Seven Trees, New Wellington Street in Mill Hill and Audley Range. Darwen’s branch on Market Street is listed under its own post town and is not counted here.
What time does Betfred open in Blackburn?
Railway Road opens at 08:30 on weekdays and 08:00 on a Saturday, the earliest in the town. Whalley New Road and Mill Hill both open at 09:00 on a weekday, with Mill Hill opening half an hour earlier on a Saturday. Sunday opening is 09:30 at Railway Road and 10:00 at the other two. We have not been able to confirm the times for the Audley Range branch.

Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision.
Are Betfred shops in Blackburn open on bank holidays?
Yes. Good Friday, Easter Monday and the May and August bank holidays are all trading days, usually on normal or slightly shortened hours. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally close early, and New Year’s Day opens later.
Which Betfred is nearest to Blackburn station and Ewood Park?
21 Railway Road is the closest to both Blackburn station and the Mall, a couple of minutes’ walk from each. For Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, the nearest is the Mill Hill branch on New Wellington Street, roughly two thirds of a mile from the ground.
