Blackpool is a small estate with full published weekly times for every branch, so every countdown on this page is based on the shop’s own hours rather than a brand average. It is also the only town on this site where no branch keeps identical hours Monday to Saturday: five of the eight open earlier on a Saturday than during the week, and the other three shorten the evening instead. The two seafront-end shops, Bank Hey Street behind the Tower and Waterloo Road in South Shore, are the late ones, trading to 22:00 on weekdays. Live status for every shop is in the lists below.

Every Betfred in this list carries its own published weekly times. Bank Hey Street is the only branch on the seafront side of the town centre, a few steps behind the Tower; the others sit inland along Whitegate Drive and Devonshire Road, in Layton, in Marton and down at the South Shore end of Waterloo Road. Distances are straight-line estimates from the Tower. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.

Blackpool Betfred opening times compared

The full weekly pattern for every central branch in one table. Today’s column is highlighted.

No Blackpool branch runs the same hours Monday to Saturday, which is unusual. Layton and Waterloo Road open a half hour earlier on a Saturday, at 08:00, and keep their weekday closing time. Whitegate Drive and Bank Hey Street also open earlier but pull the evening in, Whitegate Drive by half an hour and Bank Hey Street by a full hour. Devonshire Road is the other way round again: the same 09:00 start all week, with the Saturday finish an hour earlier than the weekday one.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Blackpool

Full weekly times are published for all eight Blackpool branches, so this section covers every shop on the page.

Open earliest

On a weekday, three branches open at 08:30 — Bank Hey Street, Layton and Waterloo Road — and the other five at 09:00. Saturday is the earliest morning in the town, and five of the eight bring the shutters up sooner: Layton and Waterloo Road both open at 08:00, with Bank Hey Street, Whitegate Drive, Highfield Road and Bispham at 08:30. No Blackpool Betfred opens before 08:00 on any day.

Open latest

Bank Hey Street and Waterloo Road are the late pair, trading until 22:00 Monday to Friday. Layton and Highfield Road close at 21:30, and the remaining four at 21:00, so the whole town is inside a one-hour band at closing time. Nothing in Blackpool closes before 21:00 on a weekday, which is later than the suburban norm in most northern towns.

The longest day in the town: 72 Waterloo Road runs 08:30 to 22:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 22:00 on a Saturday and 08:30 to 21:00 on a Sunday. It is both the earliest opener and the latest closer across the week, and the obvious choice if you are staying at the South Shore end of the Promenade.

Betfred Blackpool Sunday opening times

Sunday is where the town splits most clearly. Doors open between 08:30 and 10:00, and closing runs from 18:00 to 21:00 — a three-hour spread across eight shops.

Sunday trading at each Betfred in Blackpool, latest closing first.

Waterloo Road and Layton are the two to head for on a Sunday evening, both open until 21:00, and Waterloo Road opens first thing at 08:30. Bank Hey Street and Whitegate Drive close at 20:00 and Highfield Road at 19:30. The three 18:00 closers — Devonshire Road, Vicarage Lane and Bispham — also start at 10:00, the latest in the town alongside Layton, so they trade just eight hours on a Sunday against Waterloo Road’s twelve and a half.

Betfred Blackpool bank holiday opening times

Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all eight Blackpool branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.

Bank holidays matter more in a resort town than most places, because they are among the busiest trading days of the year. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would cut the evening short at every Blackpool branch, so check the window card the week before. Dates in the tables below update automatically.

Easter opening times

Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Easter is the start of the Blackpool season, so expect branches to be busy and to follow their usual pattern for that day.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

May and August bank holidays

The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday, and all three land in Blackpool’s main season. The summer bank holiday coincides with the Illuminations switch-on period, when the town is at its busiest.

All three fall on a Monday, so the dates shift each year.

Christmas and New Year opening times

The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Blackpool times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.

The Christmas Day closure is a licence condition under the Gambling Act 2005. Next dates update automatically.

New Year’s Eve31 December—Normal opening, early close around 18:00

Each Blackpool branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January. Out of season, seafront-area shops can also trim their evening hours, so the Bank Hey Street times are worth confirming in midwinter.

How the live opening times work

Everything live on this page reads the clock in Blackpool (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.

The panel at the top

The top panel covers the six Betfred branches within two miles of the Tower. It tells you how many are open right now, which is next to close, and how long until the last one shuts for the night. After the last close it switches to counting down to the first shop opening the next morning.

The shop rows

Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.

Map, directions and Street View

Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all eight Blackpool branches.

Betfred in Bispham and Highfield Road

The two branches at the far ends of the town, just over two miles from the Tower in either direction: Bispham to the north and Highfield Road in the south of South Shore. Both publish full weekly times like the rest.

Directions work without this. Sharing your location re-orders the list nearest-first.

    2.4 mi from the Tower · Mon–Fri 09:00–21:00 · Sat 08:30–20:00 · Sun 10:00–18:00

Highfield Road is the later of the two by some distance, closing at 21:30 on weekdays and 19:30 on a Sunday against Bispham’s 21:00 and 18:00. Bispham is the closest Blackpool branch to the Cleveleys end of the tramway, and there is a William Hill directly across the road at 68 Red Bank Road and a Coral further along at number 329, so it is a competitive corner.

Betfred near Blackpool, along the Fylde coast

Blackpool sits at the centre of a string of Fylde coast towns, each with its own Betfred branches listed under its own post town rather than under Blackpool.

The closest are Cleveleys, on Victoria Road West, and the Thornton Shopping Centre branch, both a short tram or bus ride north. Beyond them are Fleetwood on Lord Street, Poulton-le-Fylde in the Teanlowe Centre, and Lytham St Annes on St Annes Road West. Several directories count nine or more Betfred shops for “Blackpool” by folding some of those in; this page counts only the eight inside Blackpool itself, all licensed by Blackpool Council.

If you are staying in Cleveleys, Thornton or St Annes rather than Blackpool proper, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the eight Blackpool branches, which may not be the nearest Betfred overall once you are outside the town.

Other bookmakers in Blackpool

Blackpool is a William Hill town. Against Betfred’s eight shops, William Hill has roughly a dozen across the resort, with Coral and Ladbrokes making up a handful more — around 27 betting shops in total for a population of about 140,000, one of the densest concentrations in the North West.

The William Hill branches cluster where the visitors are and where the terraced streets are densest: two on Central Drive near the Tower, one on Church Street, another on Bond Street and one on Waterloo Road within a few doors of the Betfred, plus shops on Whitegate Drive, Westcliffe Drive in Layton, Dickson Road, Ansdell Road, Cherry Tree Road, Highfield Road, Squires Gate Lane and Red Bank Road in Bispham. Coral has shops on Lytham Road in South Shore and Red Bank Road in Bispham, and Ladbrokes trades on Church Street in the town centre.

We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Blackpool, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Several sit directly opposite a Betfred — William Hill at 100 Waterloo Road and 7 Westcliffe Drive, and 71 Highfield Road next door to the Betfred at 83 — so if one is busy there is usually an alternative within a few steps. Every bookmaker in the town is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it still runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, an hour down the M6 and M55 from the Fylde coast. Blackpool is a long-standing Betfred town: eight shops for a resort population of around 140,000, which is a heavier weighting than Leicester or Newport. Only one branch, Bank Hey Street, sits in the visitor strip behind the Tower. The rest serve the residential town — Whitegate Drive and Devonshire Road inland from the centre, Layton and Bispham to the north and east, Marton behind the airport road, and Waterloo Road and Highfield Road across South Shore.

Blackpool Council’s gambling register shows these premises licensed to trade 07:00 to 22:00 every day, so the published shop times sit well inside what the licences allow — which is why branches can and do extend their hours in the summer season and over the Illuminations. For visitors, 4 Bank Hey Street is the branch behind the Tower, a few minutes from the Promenade, the Winter Gardens and Blackpool North station. At the southern end, 72 Waterloo Road is closest to the Pleasure Beach, the Sandcastle and Bloomfield Road, home of Blackpool FC.

Frequently asked questions

How many Betfred shops are there in Blackpool?
Eight Betfred betting shops sit inside Blackpool itself, all licensed by Blackpool Council: Bank Hey Street by the Tower, Whitegate Drive, Layton, Waterloo Road and Highfield Road in South Shore, Devonshire Road, Vicarage Lane in Marton and Red Bank Road in Bispham. Some directories count nine or more for Blackpool by folding in Cleveleys, Thornton, Poulton-le-Fylde, Fleetwood or Lytham St Annes, which are separate post towns.
What time does Betfred open in Blackpool?
Three branches open at 08:30 on weekdays — Bank Hey Street, Layton and Waterloo Road — and the other five at 09:00. Saturday is the earliest morning in the town: five of the eight bring their opening time forward, with Layton and Waterloo Road both opening at 08:00. On a Sunday, opening runs from 08:30 at Waterloo Road to 10:00 at Layton, Devonshire Road, Vicarage Lane and Bispham.
What time does Betfred close in Blackpool?
Two branches close at 22:00 on weekdays: Bank Hey Street by the Tower and Waterloo Road in South Shore. Layton and Highfield Road close at 21:30, and the remaining four at 21:00. No Blackpool Betfred closes before 21:00 on a weekday.
Which Betfred in Blackpool is open latest on a Sunday?
Waterloo Road and Layton, both open until 21:00. Waterloo Road also has the earliest Sunday start in the town at 08:30, giving it the longest Sunday by a clear margin. Devonshire Road, Vicarage Lane and Bispham all close at 18:00.
Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision. Blackpool Council’s own gambling register shows these branches licensed to trade 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Sunday, but the Christmas Day restriction still applies.
Are Betfred shops in Blackpool open on bank holidays?
Yes. Good Friday, Easter Monday and the May and August bank holidays are all trading days, and in a resort town they are among the busiest of the year. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally close early, and New Year’s Day opens later.
Which Betfred is nearest to Blackpool Tower and the Pleasure Beach?
4 Bank Hey Street is directly behind the Tower and is the closest branch to the Promenade, Blackpool North station and the Winter Gardens. For the Pleasure Beach and the South Shore end of the seafront, 72 Waterloo Road is the nearest, with 83 Highfield Road a little further inland. Bloomfield Road, home of Blackpool FC, is a short walk from the Waterloo Road shop.
How do I find the nearest Betfred to me in Blackpool?
Tap “Use my current location”. Every list on this page then re-orders nearest-first, and the directions button at the top routes you to the closest of all eight Blackpool Betfred shops.
