Bristol is the most competitive betting market on this site. There are around 45 betting shops in the city, and Betfred is only the third-largest chain in it: William Hill has roughly 17 branches and Coral 10, against Betfred’s 8. Four of the five confirmed Betfred shops trade until 22:00 on weekdays, and Bedminster and Redfield hold that time on a Sunday too. Broadmead is the earliest opener at 08:00 but pulls its evening back by an hour at weekends. Three branches are listed further down without live status because we have not been able to confirm their weekly hours.
The 5 Bristol Betfred shops with published times
Every Bristol Betfred whose full weekly times we can confirm, ordered by distance from the city centre. Each row shows today’s times, whether the shop is open now and how long until it closes, with buttons for the map pin, a route from where you are and Street View of the shopfront.

These five carry their own published weekly times and sit in a line running north-east from the centre: Broadmead in the shopping quarter, Bedminster and Redfield on the inner high streets either side of the river, then Horfield and Filton up the Gloucester Road corridor. Distances are straight-line estimates from the Centre. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.
Bristol Betfred opening times compared
The full weekly pattern for the five confirmed branches, with the three unconfirmed rows shown for completeness. Today’s column is highlighted.
Bedminster, Redfield and Horfield keep identical hours Monday to Saturday. The two that change are both worth knowing: Broadmead runs 08:00 to 22:00 on weekdays but closes at 21:00 on Saturday and Sunday, and Filton does the same in reverse order, holding 22:00 midweek and 21:00 at the weekend. All five open at 09:00 on a Sunday.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Bristol
This section covers the five branches with published times. The three unconfirmed shops are excluded because we cannot verify their hours.
Open earliest
72 The Horsefair in Broadmead is the earliest at 08:00 on weekdays and again on a Saturday. Bedminster and Redfield follow at 08:30, and Horfield and Filton open at 09:00. On a Sunday all five open at 09:00, so there is no 10:00 start anywhere in the confirmed group.
Open latest
4 of the five trade until 22:00 on weekdays: Broadmead, Bedminster, Redfield and Filton. Horfield is the exception at 21:00, and it keeps that time all seven days. At the weekend the picture narrows: only Bedminster and Redfield are still open at 21:30 on a Saturday or Sunday.
The steadiest shops in the city: 150–154 East Street in Bedminster and 144 Whitehall Road in Redfield both run 08:30 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday. They are the only two Bristol branches with a 22:00 finish every day of the week.
Betfred Bristol Sunday opening times
All five confirmed branches open at 09:00 on a Sunday. The difference is the evening: two run to 22:00 and three stop at 21:00.
| Shop | Opens | Closes | Find the shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedminster (East Street)150–154 East Street, BS3 4EW | 09:00 | 22:00 | |
| Redfield (Whitehall Road)144 Whitehall Road, BS5 9BP | 09:00 | 22:00 | |
| Broadmead (The Horsefair)72 The Horsefair, BS1 3JQ | 09:00 | 21:00 | |
| Horfield (Gloucester Road)347a Gloucester Road, BS7 8TG | 09:00 | 21:00 | |
| Filton (Gloucester Road North)12 Gloucester Road North, BS7 0SF | 09:00 | 21:00 |
Bedminster and Redfield are the two to head for on a Sunday evening, both open until 22:00. Broadmead, Horfield and Filton all close at 21:00, which is still later than the Sunday norm in most towns covered on this site. Nothing in the confirmed group opens later than 09:00 or closes before 21:00 on a Sunday.
Betfred Bristol bank holiday opening times
Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all eight Bristol branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
On the other bank holidays, Bristol branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays. Dates in the tables below update automatically.
Easter opening times
Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Bristol branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal weekday times |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal Saturday times |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | Normal Sunday times |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
May and August bank holidays
The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. The August weekend usually coincides with the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta or the Harbour Festival, when the centre and Broadmead are at their busiest.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
Christmas and New Year opening times
The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Bristol times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.
| Day | Date | Next date | Usual pattern in Bristol |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day, every shop |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | Normal opening, close around 20:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
| New Year’s Eve | 31 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| New Year’s Day | 1 January | — | Later start around 10:00, close around 20:00 |
Each Bristol branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The Broadmead shop sits inside the Bristol Shopping Quarter and may also follow the centre’s own festive hours. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.
How the live opening times work
Everything live on this page reads the clock in Bristol (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.
The panel at the top
The top panel covers the five Bristol branches with published weekly times. It tells you how many are open right now, which is next to close, and how long until the last one shuts for the night. The three unconfirmed shops are left out of the count, because including a shop with unknown hours would make the panel wrong rather than incomplete.
The shop rows
Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Times not published means we have no confirmed hours for that branch. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.
Map, directions and Street View
Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all eight branches, including the three whose hours are unconfirmed.
Bristol branches with unconfirmed times
Three more Betfred shops trade in Bristol, but we have not been able to confirm their full weekly times from a source that publishes them branch by branch, so they carry no live status.

| Shop | Address | Weekly times |
|---|---|---|
| Clare Street | 1–5 Clare Street, Old City, BS1 1XH | Not confirmed — sources disagree |
| Ashton Gate | 255 North Street, Southville, BS3 1JN | Not confirmed |
| Fishponds Road | Unit D, 782–786 Fishponds Road, BS16 3TT | Not confirmed |
The map, directions and Street View buttons all work for these three, and they are included when you use the location button, so they will still come up as your nearest shop if you are in the Old City, Southville or Fishponds. What we cannot do is tell you whether they are open right now. Two sources give different weekday opening times for Clare Street, half an hour apart, which is exactly the kind of conflict we would rather flag than paper over. Betfred’s shop line is 0800 032 0878, and the window card will carry the current times. If you know them, let us know and we will add the live rows.
Betfred near Bristol
Bristol’s postal area stretches well beyond the city boundary, so several branches carry a Bristol address while sitting in their own towns.
Keynsham, Yate, Nailsea and Yatton all have Betfred shops with BS postcodes and Bristol addresses, and directory listings sometimes fold them — along with two branches in Weston-super-Mare, twenty miles down the coast — into a single “Bristol” count of twelve or thirteen. This page counts only the eight inside the city itself. Bath, eleven miles east, has its own estate, and Newport is about half an hour up the M4 across the Severn.
If you are heading for Keynsham, Yate or Weston rather than Bristol itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the eight city branches, which may not be the nearest Betfred overall once you are outside Bristol.
Other bookmakers in Bristol
With around 45 betting shops across five brands, Bristol is the most crowded market on this site — and the only city covered here where Betfred is not in the top two.
William Hill leads with roughly 17 branches, including Fairfax Street a few minutes from the Broadmead Betfred, East Street in Bedminster, Church Road in Redfield, Filton Avenue, Stapleton Road, Kingswood, Knowle, Brislington, Henbury, Southmead, Westbury-on-Trym, Shirehampton, Avonmouth, Staple Hill, Fishponds and Patchway. Coral has about 10, including Nelson Street in the centre, Whiteladies Road in Clifton, East Street in Bedminster, Filton Avenue, Fishponds and Bishopsworth. Ladbrokes has 8, among them Union Gate and Wine Street in the centre, Church Road in Redfield and Stapleton Road in Eastville, and BoyleSports has a single shop on High Street in Staple Hill.
We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Bristol, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Three streets have a Betfred and at least one rival within a few minutes’ walk: East Street in Bedminster, Whitehall and Church Road in Redfield, and the Broadmead and Old City end of the centre. Every bookmaker in the city is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington. Bristol is a comparatively light presence for a city of its size: eight shops, against ten in Bournemouth and sixteen in Nottingham, and third place behind William Hill and Coral locally. Two branches sit in the centre, on The Horsefair in Broadmead and Clare Street in the Old City, and the rest follow the inner high streets — East Street and North Street south of the river, Whitehall Road in Redfield to the east, and the Gloucester Road corridor north through Horfield to Filton, with Fishponds Road covering the north-east.
For travellers, 72 The Horsefair is the one to know: about half a mile from Temple Meads, right in the Bristol Shopping Quarter, and the earliest opener in the city at 08:00. On matchdays at Ashton Gate, home of Bristol City and Bristol Bears, 255 North Street in Southville is the closest shop, with the Bedminster branch on East Street a little further and its hours confirmed. For rugby and football at the Memorial Stadium in Horfield, 347a Gloucester Road is a few minutes’ walk.
Frequently asked questions
- How many Betfred shops are there in Bristol?
- Eight Betfred branches sit inside the Bristol city boundary, all licensed by Bristol City Council: Broadmead, Clare Street, Bedminster, Ashton Gate, Redfield, Horfield, Fishponds and Filton. - What time does Betfred open in Bristol?
- Of the five branches with confirmed times, The Horsefair in Broadmead is the earliest at 08:00 on weekdays, with Bedminster and Redfield at 08:30 and Horfield and Filton at 09:00. All five open at 09:00 on a Sunday.

- Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
- No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision.
- Are Betfred shops in Bristol open on bank holidays?
- Yes. Good Friday, Easter Monday and the May and August bank holidays are all trading days, usually on normal or slightly shortened hours. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally close early, and New Year’s Day opens later.

- How do I find the nearest Betfred to me in Bristol?
- Tap “Use my current location”. Every list on this page then re-orders nearest-first, and the directions button at the top routes you to the closest of all eight Bristol Betfred shops, including the three whose hours are unconfirmed.
