Coventry holds a record among the towns covered on this site: the two city-centre branches, Cross Cheaping and Shelton Square, open at 07:30 Monday to Saturday, half an hour earlier than any other Betfred we have recorded. All three confirmed branches then run right through to 22:00, every day of the week including Sunday. Betfred is not the biggest chain here though — Ladbrokes has around ten Coventry shops and William Hill a similar number against Betfred’s five. Two branches are listed further down without live status because we have not been able to confirm their weekly hours.
The 3 Coventry Betfred shops with published times
Every Coventry Betfred whose full weekly times we can confirm, ordered by distance from Broadgate. Each row shows today’s times, whether the shop is open now and how long until it closes, with buttons for the map pin, a route from where you are and Street View of the shopfront.

These three carry their own published weekly times. Cross Cheaping and Shelton Square are both inside the ring road, a few minutes’ walk apart either side of the Upper Precinct, and Radford Road runs north-west out of the city towards Radford and Keresley. Distances are straight-line estimates from Broadgate. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.
Coventry Betfred opening times compared
The full weekly pattern for the three confirmed branches, with the two unconfirmed rows shown for completeness. Today’s column is highlighted.
All three confirmed branches keep identical hours Monday to Saturday and all three close at 22:00 on a Sunday. The only difference between them is the morning: 07:30 at the two city-centre shops against 08:00 at Radford Road, and 09:00 everywhere on a Sunday. A 07:30 start with a 22:00 finish gives Cross Cheaping and Shelton Square fourteen and a half hour days, six days a week — the longest trading day recorded on this site.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Coventry
This section covers the three branches with published times. The two unconfirmed shops are excluded because we cannot verify their hours.
Open earliest
Cross Cheaping and Shelton Square both open at 07:30 Monday to Saturday. That is the earliest weekday opening anywhere in this set of pages — half an hour ahead of the 08:00 starts in Blackpool, Bournemouth and Nottingham, and a full ninety minutes before the 09:00 shops in Bury and Castleford. Radford Road opens at 08:00. On a Sunday all three open at 09:00.
Open latest
All three confirmed branches close at 22:00, and they hold it every day of the week including Sunday. There is no weekend drop-off and no shorter Sunday evening in the confirmed group, which puts Coventry alongside Brighton, Chelmsford and Cheltenham as one of the strongest late-evening estates covered here.
The longest day on this site: 17 Cross Cheaping and 3–5 Shelton Square both run 07:30 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday — fourteen and a half hours — and 09:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday. No other Betfred branch covered on these pages opens before 08:00 on a weekday.
Betfred Coventry Sunday opening times
All three confirmed branches run 09:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday — identical hours, thirteen hours each.
| Shop | Opens | Closes | Find the shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cross Cheaping (city centre)17 Cross Cheaping, CV1 1HF | 09:00 | 22:00 | |
| Shelton Square3–5 Shelton Square, CV1 1DG | 09:00 | 22:00 | |
| Radford (Radford Road)129 Radford Road, CV6 3BQ | 09:00 | 22:00 |
There is no Sunday evening gap in Coventry: all three confirmed branches are open until 22:00, right through the late kick-offs. The only thing Sunday costs you is the morning, with a 09:00 start rather than 07:30 at the two city-centre shops.
Betfred Coventry bank holiday opening times
Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all five Coventry branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
On the other bank holidays, Coventry branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would cut two hours off all three confirmed branches. Dates in the tables below update automatically.
Easter opening times
Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Coventry branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal weekday times |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal Saturday times |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | Normal Sunday times |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
May and August bank holidays
The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. The Godiva Festival in the War Memorial Park usually falls in early July, and the city centre is busiest on match weekends and during the Coventry Motofest in late May or early June.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
Christmas and New Year opening times
The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Coventry times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.
| Day | Date | Next date | Usual pattern in Coventry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day, every shop |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | Normal opening, close around 20:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
| New Year’s Eve | 31 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| New Year’s Day | 1 January | — | Later start around 10:00, close around 20:00 |
Each Coventry branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The Broadmead shop sits inside the Coventry Shopping Quarter and may also follow the centre’s own festive hours. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.
How the live opening times work
Everything live on this page reads the clock in Coventry (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.
The panel at the top
The top panel covers the three Coventry branches with published weekly times. It tells you how many are open right now, which is next to close, and how long until the last one shuts for the night. The two unconfirmed shops are left out of the count, because including a shop with unknown hours would make the panel wrong rather than incomplete.
The shop rows
Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Times not published means we have no confirmed hours for that branch. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.
Map, directions and Street View
Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all five branches, including the two whose hours are unconfirmed.
Coventry branches with unconfirmed times
Two more Betfred shops trade in Coventry, but we have not been able to confirm their full weekly times from a source that publishes them branch by branch, so they carry no live status.
-
Betfred, Cheylesmore (Daventry Road)185 Daventry Road, Cheylesmore, Coventry CV3 5HF
-
Betfred, Foleshill (Hall Green Road)10 Hall Green Road, Foleshill, Coventry CV6 7BX
| Shop | Address | Weekly times |
|---|---|---|
| Cheylesmore | 185 Daventry Road, Cheylesmore, CV3 5HF | Weekday opening 08:00 and a 22:00 close reported; full week not confirmed |
| Foleshill | 10 Hall Green Road, Foleshill, CV6 7BX | Not confirmed |
The map, directions and Street View buttons all work for both, and they are included when you use the location button, so they will still come up as your nearest shop if you are in Cheylesmore or Foleshill. What we cannot do is tell you whether they are open right now. Daventry Road is reported as opening at 08:00 and closing at 22:00, but without a confirmed Saturday and Sunday we have left it without a live row. Hall Green Road also carries a different contact number from the other four, which is worth knowing if you ring ahead. Betfred’s shop line is 0800 032 0878, and the window card will carry the current times. If you know them, let us know and we will add the live rows.
Betfred near Coventry
Coventry sits between Birmingham and the Warwickshire towns, and the branches around it are listed under their own names rather than under Coventry.
Bedworth is the closest, about five miles north with two branches on King Street and Leicester Street, and Nuneaton has two more on Queens Road and Newdegate Street. Leamington Spa, Warwick and Rugby all have their own shops, and Birmingham — with 32 branches, covered on its own page — is about twenty miles west. Some directory listings also show a Riley Square branch at Bell Green in Coventry; it does not appear in the per-branch source we use, so it may have closed.
If you are heading for Bedworth, Nuneaton or Leamington rather than Coventry itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the five Coventry branches, which may not be the nearest Betfred overall once you are outside the city.
Other bookmakers in Coventry
Coventry is a Ladbrokes and William Hill city by shop count, with Betfred third on five branches.
Ladbrokes has around ten across the city, including Hertford Street and Hartford Street in the centre, Tile Hill Lane and Jardine Crescent at Tile Hill, and branches at Bell Green, Wyken and Willenhall. Several of the Coventry Ladbrokes shops now appear in directories under the “Spin” retail format rather than the standard Ladbrokes name. William Hill trades on Far Gosford Street, Allesley Old Road and at several suburban sites, Coral has a shop at 48 Hertford Street, and Paddy Power is on Cross Cheaping and Far Gosford Street.
We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Coventry, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Cross Cheaping is the street to know: the Betfred at number 17 and a Paddy Power are a few doors apart, with Hertford Street and the Upper Precinct a couple of minutes away. On the 07:30 opening, the Betfred pair are almost certainly the first betting shops open in the city on a weekday morning. Every bookmaker in the city is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington. Coventry is a light presence for a city of around 345,000: five shops, against sixteen in Nottingham and ten in Bournemouth, and third locally behind Ladbrokes and William Hill. Two sit inside the ring road at Cross Cheaping and Shelton Square, and the other three cover Radford to the north-west, Cheylesmore to the south and Foleshill to the north-east. What the city centre pair lack in number they make up in hours, opening at 07:30 six days a week.
For travellers, 17 Cross Cheaping is the one to know: a minute from Broadgate and the Upper Precinct, and open from 07:30 six days a week. Shelton Square is the closer of the two to Coventry railway station and the Bull Yard. For Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena, none of the five is close — the ground is three miles north at Rowley’s Green, with its own station on the Nuneaton line, and Radford Road is the nearest branch at roughly two miles.
Frequently asked questions
- How many Betfred shops are there in Coventry?
- Five carry a Coventry address, all licensed by Coventry City Council: Cross Cheaping and Shelton Square in the city centre, Radford Road, Daventry Road at Cheylesmore and Hall Green Road at Foleshill. Three of the five publish full weekly times. Bedworth, Nuneaton, Leamington Spa and Rugby have their own branches listed under their own names.
- What time does Betfred open in Coventry?
- The two city-centre branches, Cross Cheaping and Shelton Square, open at 07:30 Monday to Saturday — the earliest weekday opening of any Betfred covered on this site. Radford Road opens at 08:00. All three open at 09:00 on a Sunday.
- What time does Betfred close in Coventry?
- All three confirmed branches close at 22:00, every day of the week including Sunday. Coventry is one of the few places on this site where every Betfred with published hours trades until 22:00 seven days a week.
- Which Betfred in Coventry is open latest on a Sunday?
- All three confirmed branches close at 22:00 on a Sunday and all three open at 09:00, so there is nothing to choose between them on time. Cross Cheaping is the most central.
- Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
- No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision.
- Are Betfred shops in Coventry open on bank holidays?
- Yes. Good Friday, Easter Monday and the May and August bank holidays are all trading days, usually on normal or slightly shortened hours. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would cut two hours off all three confirmed branches. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally close early, and New Year’s Day opens later.
- Which Betfred is nearest to Coventry station and the Coventry Building Society Arena?
- 17 Cross Cheaping is the most central, a few minutes from Broadgate and the Upper Precinct, with Shelton Square about the same distance from Coventry railway station to the south. For Coventry City at the Building Society Arena, none of the five is close — the Arena is three miles north of the centre, and Radford Road is the nearest at about two miles.
- How do I find the nearest Betfred to me in Coventry?
- Tap “Use my current location”. Every list on this page then re-orders nearest-first, and the directions button at the top routes you to the closest of all five Coventry Betfred shops, including the two whose hours are unconfirmed.
