Glasgow runs on two timetables. The city-centre branches on Gordon Street, Renfield Street and Cambridge Street open at 08:00 and stay open until 22:00 seven days a week, while the typical neighbourhood Betfred keeps a shorter 09:00 to 20:30 weekday, opens at 08:30 on a Saturday and closes at 18:00 on a Sunday. More than half of the 38 branches finish at 20:30 on weekdays. Live status for every shop is in the lists below, and the panel above counts down to the last central Glasgow Betfred closing tonight.

Four are in the city centre itself, all within half a mile of Glasgow Central; the other nine serve the inner districts north and south of the Clyde. Distances are straight-line estimates from Glasgow Central station. Street View opens at the shop’s postcode, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.
Central Glasgow Betfred opening times compared
The full weekly pattern for every central branch in one table. Today’s column is highlighted.
Only five of the 13 keep the same hours Monday to Saturday: Gordon Street, Renfield Street, Cambridge Street, London Road and Kilmarnock Road. Six branches open half an hour earlier on a Saturday than on a weekday, at 08:30 instead of 09:00, and four of those — Possil Road, Ballater Street, Edgefauld Road and Cathcart Road — also finish half an hour earlier, at 20:00. Glassford Street goes the other way, staying open until 21:30 on a Saturday instead of 21:00.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Glasgow
Weekday times are published for all 38 Glasgow branches, so this section covers the whole area.
Open earliest
No Glasgow Betfred opens before 08:00. Eight branches open at that time on weekdays: Gordon Street, Renfield Street and Cambridge Street in the city centre, London Road in Bridgeton, Victoria Road in Govanhill, Shettleston Road, Main Street in Rutherglen and Thornliebank. A further 13 open at 08:30, and 09:00 is the most common start, at 17 of the 38.
Open latest
Ten branches trade until 22:00 on weekdays: the three city-centre shops, Maryhill Road, London Road, Victoria Road, Anniesland Road, Shettleston Road, Thornliebank and Uddingston. At the other end, 20:30 is the most common weekday finish in Glasgow, applying at 20 branches — including Possil Road and Ballater Street, both within about a mile of the city centre.
Open until 22:00 every day: Gordon Street, Renfield Street, Cambridge Street and London Road keep a 22:00 finish seven days a week. 88 Gordon Street, opposite Glasgow Central, has the longest Sunday in the city, opening at 08:30.
Betfred Glasgow Sunday opening times
Sunday is the day Glasgow branches differ most. Central doors open between 08:30 and 10:00, and closing runs all the way from 18:00 to 22:00, split almost evenly between 18:00, 20:00 and 22:00.

Seven of the 13 central branches do not open until 10:00 on a Sunday, and four — Possil Road, Ballater Street, Edgefauld Road and Cathcart Road — close at 18:00, which is also the usual Sunday finish across the suburbs. For Sunday evening football, stick to the four 22:00 branches, or Victoria Road in Govanhill, which stays open until 21:00.
Betfred Glasgow bank holiday opening times
Scotland has its own set of bank holidays, and Glasgow betting shops can trade on every one of them bar Christmas Day. Betting premises licences in Scotland carry the same mandatory condition as in England and Wales — no gambling facilities on Christmas Day — so all 38 Glasgow branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
On the other holidays, Glasgow branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Dates in the tables below follow the Scottish calendar and update automatically.
Easter opening times
Good Friday is a bank holiday in Scotland, but Easter Monday is not, so on the Monday Glasgow shops simply keep their usual weekday times. The Scottish Grand National at Ayr is run in April, often close to Easter, and is one of the busiest racing days of the year in Glasgow betting shops.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal weekday times |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal Saturday times |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | Normal Sunday times |
| Easter Monday | Not a bank holiday in Scotland | — | Normal Monday times |
May, August and St Andrew’s Day
Scotland’s summer bank holiday falls on the first Monday in August, not the last, and St Andrew’s Day on 30 November is a Scottish bank holiday too, moving to the Monday when it falls at a weekend. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide early close on some bank holiday Mondays, so check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible early close |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible early close |
| Summer bank holiday (Scotland) | First Monday in August | — | Weekday opening, possible early close |
| St Andrew’s Day | 30 November, or the Monday after if at a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
Glasgow local holidays
Glasgow also keeps two traditional local holiday weekends, Glasgow Fair in July and the September weekend. They are not statutory bank holidays and many businesses stay open, and betting shops normally trade on their usual times.
| Local holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glasgow Fair Monday | Third Monday in July | — | Normal Monday times |
| September weekend Monday | Last Monday in September | — | Normal Monday times |
Christmas and New Year opening times
The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Glasgow times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and Hogmanay normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and both New Year’s Day and 2 January, which is also a bank holiday in Scotland, start later.
| Day | Date | Next date | Usual pattern in Glasgow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day, every shop |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | Normal opening, close around 20:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
| Hogmanay | 31 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| New Year’s Day | 1 January | — | Later start around 10:00, close around 20:00 |
| 2 January | 2 January, or the next weekday if at a weekend | — | Later start, close around 20:00 |
Each Glasgow branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. Shops inside shopping centres, such as Hillington, the Antonine Centre in Cumbernauld and the Regent Centre in Kirkintilloch, may also follow the centre’s own festive hours. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 and 2 January.
How the live opening times work
Everything live on this page reads the clock in Glasgow (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.
The panel at the top
The top panel covers the 13 central Glasgow Betfred branches, whose full weekly times are published. It tells you how many are open right now, which is next to close, and how long until the last one shuts for the night. After the last close it switches to counting down to the first shop opening the next morning.
The shop rows
Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.
Map, directions and Street View
Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all 38 Glasgow branches.

Weekday times for all 25 shops are published for each branch. Rows marked weekend typical use the patterns of the 13 central branches: shops that close at 20:30 on weekdays are shown as 08:30–20:00 on a Saturday and 10:00–18:00 on a Sunday, which all four central 20:30 shops follow exactly; later-closing shops are shown keeping their weekday hours on a Saturday and opening at 09:00 or 10:00 on a Sunday. Check the window card before a weekend visit.
Branches in Glasgow itself are licensed by the Glasgow Licensing Board. Rutherglen, Cambuslang, Blantyre, Uddingston and East Kilbride fall under South Lanarkshire; Thornliebank, Clarkston and Newton Mearns under East Renfrewshire; Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch under East Dunbartonshire; and Cumbernauld under North Lanarkshire. Paisley, Coatbridge and Hamilton have Betfred branches of their own that are not listed here.

Weekday times in every row are published for that branch. These bookmakers do not publish weekend times for most of their Glasgow shops, so the rows show weekday times only and are marked weekday listed. The Ladbrokes at 130 West Nile Street opens at 07:00, an hour before any Betfred in the city, and the Paddy Power on Union Street opens at 07:30.
This is a selection of the shops closest to the central Betfred branches rather than a complete list: William Hill and Ladbrokes each have more Glasgow shops than Betfred. Every bookmaker on this page is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Glasgow has more Betfred shops listed than any other UK city outside London. The company began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington. In Glasgow, the four city-centre branches sit between Central Station, Renfield Street, Cambridge Street and Glassford Street in the Merchant City; the inner ring runs from Partick and Maryhill in the west and north to Bridgeton, the Gorbals, Govanhill, Mount Florida and Shawlands south of the river. Beyond that, the estate spreads into the suburbs and neighbouring towns: 7 in west Glasgow, 4 in the south and east of the city, 8 in Rutherglen, Cambuslang and South Lanarkshire, and 6 in East Renfrewshire, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Cumbernauld.
For rail travellers, 88 Gordon Street is directly opposite Glasgow Central, and 94 Renfield Street is the closest Betfred to Queen Street. On matchdays, 1046 Cathcart Road in Mount Florida is about a five-minute walk from Hampden Park; 609 London Road in Bridgeton is the nearest to Celtic Park, just under a mile away; 183 Shieldhall Road in Govan is the closest to Ibrox, a little under a mile; and Maryhill Road is around half a mile from Firhill. For gigs at the Hydro and the SEC, Dumbarton Road in Partick and Cambridge Street in the city centre are each about a mile away.
