Great Yarmouth has five Betfred shops for a town of 40,000, which is a lot — a measure of how much seasonal trade the resort draws. The two town-centre shops on Regent Road and King Street run identical long hours: 08:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:30 to 22:00 on a Sunday, one of the earliest Sunday openings on this site. North Denes is a shorter neighbourhood shop. The Market Place and Gorleston branches are listed further down without live status, because the two sources we check give different closing times for them and we would rather flag that than pick one.
The 3 Great Yarmouth Betfred shops with published times
Every Great Yarmouth Betfred whose full weekly times we can confirm, ordered by distance from Regent Road. Each row shows today’s times, whether the shop is open now and how long until it closes, with buttons for the map pin, a route from where you are and Street View of the shopfront.

These three carry published weekly times that agree across the sources we check. Regent Road and King Street sit a few minutes apart either side of the Market Gates shopping centre, and Salisbury Road is out at North Denes, close to the racecourse. Distances are straight-line estimates from Regent Road. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.
Great Yarmouth Betfred opening times compared
The full weekly pattern for the three confirmed branches, with the two unconfirmed rows shown for completeness. Today’s column is highlighted.
All three confirmed branches keep the same hours Monday to Saturday, and Regent Road and King Street are identical on all seven days. The only real split is between the town centre and North Denes: an hour later to open and an hour earlier to close every day, and two hours earlier on a Sunday evening.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Great Yarmouth
This section covers the three branches with published times. The two unconfirmed shops are excluded because we cannot verify their hours.
Open earliest
Regent Road and King Street both open at 08:00 Monday to Saturday and at 08:30 on a Sunday. That Sunday start is among the earliest on this site — only Croydon and Kemptown in Brighton open earlier, at 08:00. North Denes opens at 09:00 midweek and 10:00 on a Sunday.
Open latest
Regent Road and King Street both close at 22:00, and they hold it every day of the week including Sunday. North Denes closes at 21:00 Monday to Saturday and 20:00 on a Sunday. So after 21:00 on any evening, the two town-centre shops are the only confirmed Betfreds open in Great Yarmouth.
The two to remember: 70a Regent Road and 168 King Street both run 08:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:30 to 22:00 on a Sunday — fourteen hours a day six days a week and thirteen and a half on a Sunday, a few minutes’ walk apart.
Betfred Great Yarmouth Sunday opening times
On a Sunday the two town-centre shops run 08:30 to 22:00 and North Denes 10:00 to 20:00.
| Shop | Opens | Closes | Find the shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| King Street168 King Street, NR30 2PA | 08:30 | 22:00 | |
| Regent Road70a Regent Road, NR30 2AJ | 08:30 | 22:00 | |
| North Denes (Salisbury Road)62 Salisbury Road, NR30 4JZ | 10:00 | 20:00 |
Regent Road and King Street both run 08:30 to 22:00 on a Sunday, covering the early racing, the afternoon football and the late kick-offs. North Denes runs 10:00 to 20:00. In season, when the seafront is at its busiest, the two town-centre shops are the ones to head for.
Betfred Great Yarmouth bank holiday opening times
Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all eight Great Yarmouth branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
On the other bank holidays, Great Yarmouth branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would cut up to two hours off the three confirmed branches. Dates in the tables below update automatically.
Easter opening times
Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Great Yarmouth branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal weekday times |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal Saturday times |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | Normal Sunday times |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
May and August bank holidays
The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday, and all three land in Great Yarmouth’s main season. Great Yarmouth racecourse on the North Denes stages its three-day Eastern Festival in September, when the North Denes shop is closest to the action.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
Christmas and New Year opening times
The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Great Yarmouth times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.
| Day | Date | Next date | Usual pattern in Great Yarmouth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day, every shop |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | Normal opening, close around 20:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
| New Year’s Eve | 31 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| New Year’s Day | 1 January | — | Later start around 10:00, close around 20:00 |
Each Great Yarmouth branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The Broadmead shop sits inside the Great Yarmouth Shopping Quarter and may also follow the centre’s own festive hours. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.
How the live opening times work
Everything live on this page reads the clock in Great Yarmouth (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.
The panel at the top
The top panel covers the three Great Yarmouth branches with published weekly times. It tells you how many are open right now, which is next to close, and how long until the last one shuts for the night. The two unconfirmed shops are left out of the count, because including a shop with unknown hours would make the panel wrong rather than incomplete.
The shop rows
Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Times not published means we have no confirmed hours for that branch. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.
Map, directions and Street View
Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all five branches, including the two whose hours are unconfirmed.
Great Yarmouth branches with unconfirmed times
Two more Betfred shops trade in Great Yarmouth, but we have not been able to confirm their full weekly times from a source that publishes them branch by branch, so they carry no live status.
-
Betfred, Market Place15 Market Place, Great Yarmouth NR30 1LY
-
Betfred, Gorleston (High Street)98a–99 High Street, Gorleston-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth NR31 6RF
| Shop | Address | Weekly times |
|---|---|---|
| Market Place | 15 Market Place, NR30 1LY | Sources disagree: one gives 09:00 to 20:00, another a 22:00 close |
| Gorleston | 98a–99 High Street, Gorleston-on-Sea, NR31 6RF | Sources disagree: one gives a 21:30 weekday close, another 22:00 |
The map, directions and Street View buttons all work for both, and they are included when you use the location button, so they will still come up as your nearest shop if you are by the Market Place or in Gorleston. What we cannot do is tell you reliably whether they are open right now. For the Market Place shop one listing gives 09:00 to 20:00 and another a 22:00 close; for Gorleston the difference is half an hour on weekday evenings. Rather than pick one, we have left both without a live row. Betfred’s shop line is 0800 032 0878, and the window card will carry the current times.
Betfred near Great Yarmouth
Great Yarmouth sits on the Norfolk coast at the mouth of the Yare, and the nearest Betfred branches outside it are listed under their own town names.
Lowestoft is the nearest town with its own Betfred, about nine miles south on London Road North, across the Suffolk border. Norwich, twenty miles west, has a larger estate. Caister-on-Sea and Bradwell have betting shops but no Betfred; Coral covers Bradwell and Gorleston’s Lowestoft Road. The licensing register also lists Betfred entries at 10–11 Regent Road (NR30 1RN) and 29 Regent Road (NR30 2AF), but neither appears in current branch listings, so we have left them out of the count.
All five Great Yarmouth branches, including Gorleston, are licensed by Great Yarmouth Borough Council; the Lowestoft shop falls under East Suffolk. If you are heading south towards Lowestoft or Hopton rather than staying in Great Yarmouth, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the five Great Yarmouth branches.
Other bookmakers in Great Yarmouth
Great Yarmouth is one of the few towns covered on this site where Betfred has more shops than any rival.
Great Yarmouth has a smaller mix of rivals than its Betfred count suggests. Ladbrokes trades at 16 Theatre Plain, a few doors from the King Street Betfred, and Paddy Power at 111 Regent Road on the same stretch as the Regent Road Betfred. William Hill has a shop at 3 Regent Road. Coral trades at 2 Lowestoft Road in Gorleston and at Mill Lane in Bradwell.
We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Great Yarmouth, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Regent Road is the street to know: a Betfred, a Paddy Power and a William Hill all trade along it between the town centre and the seafront, with the Ladbrokes on Theatre Plain a minute away. Betfred has more shops in the town than any other brand. Every bookmaker in the borough is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about 200 miles west. Great Yarmouth is one of its densest small-town estates: five trading shops for a population of around 40,000, where towns three times the size manage two. That reflects the resort — the Golden Mile, the piers and the summer crowds — and the register shows there were once seven. Three shops sit within a few minutes of the Market Place, one at North Denes by the racecourse, and one in Gorleston across the river.
For visitors, 70a Regent Road is the one to know: on the road linking the town centre and the Market Gates centre to the seafront, about a quarter of a mile from the Britannia Pier and the Golden Mile, and open until 22:00 every day. King Street is a minute away and keeps the same hours. Great Yarmouth railway station on Vauxhall Bridge is about half a mile west of both. For the racecourse on the North Denes, the Salisbury Road branch is the nearest. Gorleston’s High Street shop serves the south side of the river mouth and the James Paget hospital area.
Frequently asked questions
- How many Betfred shops are there in Great Yarmouth?
- Five are trading, all licensed by Great Yarmouth Borough Council: 70a Regent Road, 168 King Street and 15 Market Place in the town centre, 62 Salisbury Road at North Denes, and 98a–99 High Street in Gorleston. The licensing register also carries older entries at 10–11 and 29 Regent Road, but neither appears in current branch listings.
- What time does Betfred open in Great Yarmouth?
- Regent Road and King Street both open at 08:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:30 on a Sunday, which is an early Sunday start for a resort town. North Denes opens at 09:00 midweek and 10:00 on a Sunday. We have not published times for the Market Place and Gorleston shops because the sources we use disagree.
- What time does Betfred close in Great Yarmouth?
- Regent Road and King Street close at 22:00 every day of the week, Sunday included. North Denes closes at 21:00 Monday to Saturday and 20:00 on a Sunday.
- Which Betfred in Great Yarmouth is open latest on a Sunday?
- Regent Road and King Street, both 08:30 to 22:00 — thirteen and a half hours, and among the longest Sundays of any town covered on this site. They are a few minutes’ walk apart, either side of the Market Gates centre.
- Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
- No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision.
- Are Betfred shops in Great Yarmouth open on bank holidays?
- Yes, and in a resort town the May and August bank holidays are among the busiest trading days of the year. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would cut two hours off Regent Road and King Street. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally close early, and New Year’s Day opens later.
- Which Betfred is nearest to the seafront and Great Yarmouth racecourse?
- 70a Regent Road is the closest to the Golden Mile, the Britannia Pier and the Wellington Pier, on the road that links the town centre to the seafront. For Great Yarmouth racecourse on the North Denes, the Salisbury Road branch is the nearest, about half a mile from the course.
- How do I find the nearest Betfred to me in Great Yarmouth?
- Tap “Use my current location”. Every list on this page then re-orders nearest-first, and the directions button at the top routes you to the closest of the five Great Yarmouth Betfred shops, including the two whose times are unconfirmed.
