Northampton’s ten Betfred shops are a late-trading estate: seven close at 22:00 on weekdays and eight at 22:00 on a Sunday. Two details stand out. The Weston Favell Centre shop, open 08:00 to 22:00 six days a week, keeps shopping-centre hours on a Sunday — just 10:00 to 16:00. And Kettering Road and Broadway East both stay open later on a Sunday than during the week, something only a handful of shops on this site do. Full published weekly times are available for every branch.

Betfred, The Parade (town centre)8 The Parade, Northampton NN1 2EA
The Parade runs 08:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday. Market Square has a Paddy Power and a William Hill within a minute or two, and the Coral on the Drapery and the Ladbrokes on Abington Street are a short walk away. Distances are straight-line estimates from Market Square. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.
Northampton Betfred opening times compared
The full weekly pattern for all ten branches in one table, nearest the town centre first. Today’s column is highlighted.
Most of Northampton’s shops follow the same shape: 09:00 to 22:00 on weekdays, an earlier 08:00 start on a Saturday, and 09:00 or 09:30 to 22:00 on a Sunday. The exceptions are worth knowing. Kettering Road, Harlestone Road and Broadway East close earlier during the week, at 21:30 or 21:00 — but Kettering Road and Broadway East then stay open until 22:00 on a Sunday. And the Weston Favell Centre shop, the only one besides The Parade to open at 08:00 on weekdays, closes at 16:00 on a Sunday.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Northampton
Full weekly times are published for all ten branches, so this section covers every shop on the page.
Open earliest
The Parade and the Weston Favell Centre open at 08:00 on weekdays; the other eight at 09:00. On a Saturday, seven of the ten open at 08:00, Kingsley at 08:30, and Kettering Road and 183–185 Wellingborough Road at 09:00. On a Sunday most open at 09:00, the two Wellingborough Road shops at 09:30 and Weston Favell at 10:00.

The Sunday twist: 206 Kettering Road and 160 Broadway East both close later on a Sunday (22:00) than during the week (21:30 and 21:00). Only a handful of Betfreds covered on this site trade later on a Sunday than midweek, and Northampton has two of them.

Eight branches close at 22:00 on a Sunday, including Kettering Road and Broadway East, which close earlier during the week. Harlestone Road closes at 21:00. The Weston Favell Centre shop is the exception: it opens only from 10:00 to 16:00 on a Sunday, because large shops in England — including the shopping centre it sits in — are limited to six hours of Sunday trading. If you are in Weston Favell on a Sunday evening, Broadway East is the nearest Betfred still open.
Betfred Northampton bank holiday opening times
Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all ten Northampton branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
On the other bank holidays, Northampton branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would take up to two hours off the Northampton branches. Dates in the tables below update automatically.
Easter opening times
Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Northampton branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal weekday times |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal Saturday times |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | Normal Sunday times |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
May and August bank holidays
The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before; a 20:00 bank holiday close would take up to two hours off the Northampton branches.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
Christmas and New Year opening times
The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Northampton times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.
| Day | Date | Next date | Usual pattern in Northampton |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day, every shop |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | Normal opening, close around 20:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
| New Year’s Eve | 31 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| New Year’s Day | 1 January | — | Later start around 10:00, close around 20:00 |
Each Northampton branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.
How the live opening times work
Everything live on this page reads the clock in Northampton (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.
The panel at the top
The top panel covers the town-centre branch at 8 The Parade. It tells you whether it is open right now and how long until it closes. The other nine branches have their own live rows in the section below.
The shop rows
Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.
Map, directions and Street View
Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all ten Northampton branches.
Betfred across the rest of Northampton
Nine more branches serve the rest of the town: three on the Kettering and Wellingborough Roads just east of the centre, two in Kingsley and Kingsthorpe to the north, two at Broadway East and the Weston Favell Centre to the east, and two at Far Cotton and St James to the south and west.

The two Wellingborough Road shops, a few hundred yards apart, both trade until 22:00 every day; a Ladbrokes at 274 sits between them. Kingsley and Kingsthorpe also hold 22:00 all week. Harlestone Road in St James is the nearest Betfred to Franklin’s Gardens and Sixfields. The Weston Favell Centre shop sits inside the shopping centre alongside a William Hill and a Ladbrokes, all three trading 08:00 to 22:00 during the week.
Betfred near Northampton
Northampton is the county town of Northamptonshire, and the nearest Betfred branches outside it are in the surrounding towns.
Wellingborough, about eleven miles north-east, has a Betfred of its own, and Kettering, fourteen miles north, and Milton Keynes, eighteen miles south, are covered on their own pages. The licensing register carries twelve Northampton rows: the ten listed here, a second entry for 183–185 Wellingborough Road (recorded as “183–185 & 187”), and 27 Gold Street (NN1 1RA), which does not appear in current listings and which we have not counted.
All ten branches are licensed by West Northamptonshire Council, which replaced Northampton Borough Council in 2021. If you are heading for Wellingborough, Daventry or Towcester rather than Northampton itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the ten Northampton branches.
Other bookmakers in Northampton
Betfred is the largest bookmaker in Northampton by shop count, with ten branches to Ladbrokes’ seven.
Ladbrokes has seven shops in Northampton, including 36 Abington Street, 274 Wellingborough Road, Kingsley Park Terrace, Harborough Road in Kingsthorpe, St Leonards Road and the Weston Favell Centre. Coral has four, among them the Drapery and Gloucester Avenue; William Hill two, on Market Street and in Weston Favell; and Paddy Power one, on Market Square.
We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Northampton, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Several Betfreds have a rival a few doors away — Kingsley Park Terrace, St Leonards Road and the Weston Favell Centre all share their parade with a Ladbrokes. Every bookmaker in the town is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about 110 miles north-west. Northampton is one of the few towns on this site where Betfred has more shops than any other bookmaker: ten branches, most of them trading until 22:00 every day, spread along the main roads out of the centre.
For visitors, 8 The Parade is the one to know: on the edge of Market Square, about half a mile from Northampton railway station, and open until 22:00 every day. For a Saints match at Franklin’s Gardens or a Cobblers game at Sixfields, Harlestone Road in St James is the nearest Betfred.
