Norwich’s eight Betfred shops keep the same hours Monday to Saturday and do their most interesting business on a Sunday. Seven of the eight close at 22:00 on a Sunday, and three of them — St Augustines Street, Sprowston Road and the Earlham West Centre — stay open an hour later on a Sunday than during the week, something only a handful of shops on this site do. Magdalen Street is the steady exception, 20:30 every day. Full published weekly times are available for every branch.

White Lion Street runs 08:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday — the earliest opener in Norwich. A Ladbrokes a few doors along at 12–12a White Lion Street closes at 20:00, two hours earlier, and there is a Paddy Power on Orford Place and a Jennings and a Coral on St Stephens Street nearby. Distances are straight-line estimates from the Market Place. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.

Every Norwich branch keeps the same hours from Monday to Saturday, so there is no separate Saturday pattern to learn. The shops fall into three groups: White Lion Street, Hall Road, Plumstead Road and Dereham Road trade until 22:00 every day; St Augustines Street, Sprowston Road and Earlham West close at 21:00 during the week but 22:00 on a Sunday; and Magdalen Street closes at 20:30 every day of the week.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Norwich

Full weekly times are published for all eight branches, so this section covers every shop on the page.

Open earliest

White Lion Street opens at 08:00 Monday to Saturday; the other seven branches open at 09:00. On a Sunday White Lion Street opens at 09:00 and everything else at 10:00. For a bet before 09:00 in the city centre, the Paddy Power on Orford Place and the Coral on St Stephens Street also open at 08:00.

Open latest

Four branches close at 22:00 Monday to Saturday: White Lion Street, Hall Road, Plumstead Road and Dereham Road. St Augustines Street, Sprowston Road and the Earlham West Centre close at 21:00, and Magdalen Street at 20:30.

The Sunday twist: St Augustines Street, Sprowston Road and the Earlham West Centre close at 21:00 during the week but at 22:00 on a Sunday. Norwich has three of the handful of Betfreds covered on this site that trade later on a Sunday than midweek.

Sunday openings are later than usual — 10:00 at every branch except White Lion Street, which opens at 09:00 — so for an early Sunday bet the city-centre shop is the one.

Betfred Norwich bank holiday opening times

Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all eight Norwich branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.

On the other bank holidays, Norwich branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would take up to two hours off the Norwich branches. Dates in the tables below update automatically.

Easter opening times

Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Norwich branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

May and August bank holidays

The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before; a 20:00 bank holiday close would take up to two hours off the Norwich branches.

All three fall on a Monday, so the dates shift each year.

Christmas and New Year opening times

The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Norwich times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.

The Christmas Day closure is a licence condition under the Gambling Act 2005. Next dates update automatically.

Each Norwich branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.

How the live opening times work

Everything live on this page reads the clock in Norwich (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.

The panel at the top

The top panel covers the city-centre branch at 7 White Lion Street. It tells you whether it is open right now and how long until it closes. The other seven branches have their own live rows in the section below.

The shop rows

Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.

Map, directions and Street View

Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all eight Norwich branches.

Betfred across the rest of Norwich

Seven more branches serve the rest of the city: Magdalen Street, St Augustines Street and Sprowston Road to the north, Hall Road in Lakenham and Plumstead Road in Thorpe Hamlet to the south and east, and Dereham Road and the Earlham West Centre to the west.

Directions work without this. Sharing your location re-orders every list nearest-first.

Dereham Road and Earlham West are a short distance apart on the western side of the city, near the University of East Anglia; Dereham Road trades until 22:00 all week, Earlham West until 21:00 on weekdays and 22:00 on a Sunday.

Betfred near Norwich

Norwich is the county city of Norfolk, and the licensing register for the area does not quite match the current listings.

Great Yarmouth, about twenty miles east, has several Betfreds and is covered on its own page — including 70a Regent Road, which some directories file under Norwich. The licensing register lists three Norwich-area addresses that do not appear in current listings: 98 Hall Road, 3 Sovereign Way, and 36 Red Lion Street in Aylsham, a separate market town licensed by Broadland District Council. We have not counted them. In the other direction, 187 Plumstead Road appears in current listings but not in the register extract we hold, which may simply pre-date it; we have included it on the strength of the current listing.

All eight branches are licensed by Norwich City Council. If you are heading for Wymondham, Aylsham or the Broads rather than Norwich itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the eight Norwich branches.

Other bookmakers in Norwich

Betfred is the largest bookmaker in Norwich by shop count, with eight branches to five each for Coral, Ladbrokes and William Hill.

Coral has five shops in Norwich, including St Stephens Street, Prince of Wales Road, Drayton Road and Colman Road. Ladbrokes has five, among them White Lion Street, London Street, Ber Street and Dereham Road; William Hill five, including Queens Road, Old Palace Road and Catton Grove Road; and Paddy Power and Jennings one each, on Orford Place and St Stephens Street.

We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Norwich, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. The city centre around St Stephens Street and White Lion Street has the densest cluster, with a Betfred, a Ladbrokes, a Coral, a Jennings and a Paddy Power within a few minutes’ walk. Every bookmaker in the city is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about 170 miles west. Norwich has eight branches — more than any other bookmaker in the city — and a distinctive Sunday pattern, with seven shops open until 22:00.

For visitors, 7 White Lion Street is the one to know: between the Market Place and the Castle, about half a mile from Norwich railway station, and open from 08:00. For a Canaries match at Carrow Road, Hall Road in Lakenham is the nearest Betfred to the ground.
