Every one of Peterborough’s seven Betfred shops opens at the same moment — 08:30 Monday to Saturday, 09:00 on a Sunday — so the only question is how late each one stays open. The answer ranges from 20:30 to 22:00 on a weekday and from 18:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday. Eastfield Road is the late shop, open until 22:00 every day of the week; The Broadway in the city centre matches it Monday to Saturday. The shops south of the river, in Woodston and Stanground, close earliest.

The Broadway is the later of the two, open until 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 21:00 on a Sunday, with a Ladbrokes and a Jennings on the same stretch. Bridge Street closes at 21:30 on weekdays, 20:30 on a Saturday and 19:00 on a Sunday; a Ladbrokes at 8 Bridge Street keeps similar hours. The Paddy Power on Midgate and the William Hill in Hereward Cross are both open until 22:00. Distances are straight-line estimates from Cathedral Square. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.
Peterborough Betfred opening times compared
The full weekly pattern for all seven branches in one table, nearest the city centre first. Today’s column is highlighted.
The opening column is the same all the way down: 08:30, or 09:00 on a Sunday. The closing column is where the shops differ. Newark Avenue, Bretton Green, The Broadway and Eastfield Road keep the same close on a Saturday as on weekdays; Bridge Street, Woodston and Lawson Avenue close earlier on a Saturday. On a Sunday only Eastfield Road and Bretton Green keep their weekday closing time.

Betfred Peterborough bank holiday opening times
Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all seven Peterborough branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
On the other bank holidays, Peterborough branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would take up to two hours off the Peterborough branches. Dates in the tables below update automatically.
Easter opening times
Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Peterborough branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal weekday times |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal Saturday times |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | Normal Sunday times |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
May and August bank holidays
The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before; a 20:00 bank holiday close would take up to two hours off the Peterborough branches.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
Christmas and New Year opening times
The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Peterborough times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.
| Day | Date | Next date | Usual pattern in Peterborough |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day, every shop |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | Normal opening, close around 20:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
| New Year’s Eve | 31 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| New Year’s Day | 1 January | — | Later start around 10:00, close around 20:00 |
Each Peterborough branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.
How the live opening times work
Everything live on this page reads the clock in Peterborough (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.
The panel at the top
The top panel covers the two city-centre branches on Bridge Street and The Broadway. It tells you how many are open right now, which is next to close, and how long until the last one shuts — The Broadway, at 22:00 Monday to Saturday.
The shop rows
Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.
Map, directions and Street View
Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all seven Peterborough branches.
Betfred across the rest of Peterborough
Five more branches serve the rest of the city: Eastfield Road and Newark Avenue to the east, the Valley Park Centre in Woodston and Lawson Avenue in Stanground south of the Nene, and Bretton Green to the west.

Eastfield Road, a short walk east of the centre, is the late shop, with a Coral opposite. Newark Avenue, further out, is near a Ladbrokes and a Paddy Power on Lincoln Road. South of the river, the Valley Park Centre shop in Woodston sits close to a Coral on Oundle Road that trades until 22:00, an hour and a half after the Betfred closes; Lawson Avenue in Stanground keeps the shortest hours of all. Bretton Green, in the Bretton Centre, has a Coral a few doors away.
Betfred near Peterborough
Peterborough sits on the Nene at the edge of the Fens, and the licensing register lists two more shops than current listings.
The register’s Unit 8 Oundle Road and 5 Bretton Court are the shops listed here as the Valley Park Centre and 5 Bretton Green. Two register addresses do not appear in current listings: Unit 37 in the Ortongate Shopping Centre at Orton (PE2 5SY), and 6 Market Place in Whittlesey (PE7 1AB), a separate market town about five miles east, licensed by Fenland District Council. We have counted neither. Stamford, about fourteen miles north-west, has a Betfred of its own, and Kettering and Northampton are covered on their own pages.
All seven branches are licensed by Peterborough City Council. If you are heading for Stamford, Whittlesey or Oundle rather than Peterborough itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the seven Peterborough branches.
Other bookmakers in Peterborough
Betfred is the largest bookmaker in Peterborough by shop count, with seven branches to Ladbrokes’ six.
Ladbrokes has six shops in Peterborough, including The Broadway, Bridge Street and two on Lincoln Road. Coral has four, among them Eastfield Road, Oundle Road, the Bretton Centre and Hampton Court in Westwood; Paddy Power three, including Midgate and Lincoln Road; William Hill two, including Hereward Cross; and Jennings one, on The Broadway.
We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Peterborough, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Coral is the rival to watch: its shops opposite Eastfield Road, near Woodston and in the Bretton Centre all trade until 22:00, later than the Woodston and Bretton Betfreds. Every bookmaker in the city is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about 130 miles north-west. Peterborough has seven branches — more than any other bookmaker in the city — all opening at the same time and spread from the city centre to Bretton, Woodston and Stanground.
For visitors, The Broadway is the one to know for an evening: north of Cathedral Square, about half a mile from Peterborough station, and open until 22:00 Monday to Saturday. Bridge Street is the nearest Betfred to the cathedral and to London Road, home of Peterborough United.
