Plymouth’s eight Betfred shops split into late and early. Both city-centre shops, Crownhill and Plymstock trade until 22:00 Monday to Saturday; Ford and Stoke close at 21:30, and Honicknowle and Plympton at 20:30. Sunday has its own quirks: Devonport Road in Stoke stays open later on a Sunday than midweek, while The Mall in Honicknowle keeps shopping-centre hours and shuts at 16:00. Full published weekly times are available for all eight.

Both keep identical hours: 08:30 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday. Next door to the New George Street shop, at number 97, is a Paddy Power that opens half an hour earlier; the register still lists that unit as a Betfred. The Ladbrokes at Derrys Cross also trades until 22:00, while the Coral on Cornwall Street closes at 19:00. Distances are straight-line estimates from Armada Way. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.

Plymouth Betfred opening times compared

The full weekly pattern for all eight branches in one table, nearest the city centre first. Today’s column is highlighted.

Saturday is where Plymouth differs from most cities: Crownhill, Plymstock and Ford all open earlier on a Saturday, at 08:00, than on weekdays. The closing times sort the shops into two groups — the 22:00 shops in the centre, Crownhill and Plymstock, and the 20:30 to 21:30 shops elsewhere. Plympton is the steadiest of all, closing at 20:30 every day of the week.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Plymouth

Full weekly times are published for all eight branches, so this section covers every shop on the page.

Open earliest

New George Street, Old Town Street, Ford, Crownhill and Plymstock open at 08:30 on weekdays; Stoke, Honicknowle and Plympton at 09:00. On a Saturday, Ford, Crownhill and Plymstock move forward to 08:00. On a Sunday every branch opens at 09:00 except The Mall in Honicknowle, at 10:00. For an 08:00 weekday start in the city centre, the Paddy Power at 97 New George Street is next door.

Open latest

New George Street, Old Town Street, Crownhill and Plymstock close at 22:00 Monday to Saturday. Stoke and Ford close at 21:30 on weekdays, then 21:00 and 20:30 on a Saturday. Honicknowle and Plympton close at 20:30 every weekday and on a Saturday.

The Sunday twist: 52–54 Devonport Road in Stoke closes at 22:00 on a Sunday, later than on any other day of the week — one of only a handful of Betfreds on this site that do.

New George Street, Old Town Street, Crownhill and Devonport Road run until 22:00; Plymstock until 21:00; Ford and Plympton until 20:30. The Mall in Honicknowle opens only from 10:00 to 16:00, because large shops in England — including the shopping centre it sits in — are limited to six hours of Sunday trading. On a Sunday evening in Honicknowle, Crownhill is the nearest Betfred still open, about a mile east.

Betfred Plymouth bank holiday opening times

Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all eight Plymouth branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.

On the other bank holidays, Plymouth branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would take up to two hours off the Plymouth branches. Dates in the tables below update automatically.

Easter opening times

Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Plymouth branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

May and August bank holidays

The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before; a 20:00 bank holiday close would take up to two hours off the Plymouth branches.

All three fall on a Monday, so the dates shift each year.

Christmas and New Year opening times

The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Plymouth times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.

The Christmas Day closure is a licence condition under the Gambling Act 2005. Next dates update automatically.

Each Plymouth branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.

How the live opening times work

Everything live on this page reads the clock in Plymouth (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.

The panel at the top

The top panel covers the two city-centre branches on New George Street and Old Town Street. It tells you how many are open right now and how long until they close — both at 22:00, every day of the week.

The shop rows

Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.

Map, directions and Street View

Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all eight Plymouth branches.

Betfred across the rest of Plymouth

Six more branches serve the rest of the city: Devonport Road in Stoke and Henderson Place in Ford to the west, Morshead Road in Crownhill and The Mall in Honicknowle to the north, and The Broadway in Plymstock and The Ridgeway in Plympton to the east.

Directions work without this. Sharing your location re-orders every list nearest-first.

Crownhill and Plymstock match the city centre with a 22:00 close Monday to Saturday; Crownhill shares Morshead Road with a Coral that also trades until 22:00. Devonport Road in Stoke is the nearest Betfred to Home Park and has a Coral on Wolseley Road nearby. The Mall in Honicknowle sits inside the Plymco shopping centre on Transit Way, and The Ridgeway in Plympton, about four miles east of the centre, has a Coral in the Chaddlewood shopping centre close by.

Betfred near Plymouth

Plymouth sits on the Sound where Devon meets Cornwall, and the licensing register lists two addresses current listings do not.

The register lists a Betfred at 97 New George Street (PL1 1RQ), next door to the 98 New George Street shop; that unit now trades as a Paddy Power. It also lists 7 Derrys Cross (PL1 2SH), which does not appear in current listings — a Ladbrokes trades a few doors away at 1–4 Derrys Cross. We have counted neither. The register’s “52/54 Davenport Road” is the Devonport Road shop in Stoke. Beyond the city, Torquay and Paignton, about thirty miles east, have Betfreds of their own.

All eight branches are licensed by Plymouth City Council. If you are heading for Saltash, Ivybridge or Tavistock rather than Plymouth itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the eight Plymouth branches.

Other bookmakers in Plymouth

Betfred is the largest bookmaker in Plymouth by shop count, with eight branches to Coral’s seven.

Coral has seven shops in Plymouth, including two on Cornwall Street in the centre, Wolseley Road in Ford and St Budeaux, Morshead Road in Crownhill, Southway Drive and the Chaddlewood centre in Plympton. Ladbrokes has four, among them Derrys Cross, Mutley Plain, Craven Avenue and Crownhill Road; and Paddy Power one, at 97 New George Street.

We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Plymouth, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. The city centre has the widest spread of closing times: the Betfreds and the Ladbrokes at Derrys Cross run to 22:00, while the Coral at 22 Cornwall Street shuts at 19:00. Every bookmaker in the city is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about 220 miles north. Plymouth has eight branches — more than any other bookmaker in the city — spread from the rebuilt city centre out to Crownhill, Plymstock and Plympton.

For visitors, both city-centre shops are open until 22:00 every day, a short walk from Plymouth station, the Barbican and the Hoe. For Plymouth Argyle at Home Park, Devonport Road in Stoke is the nearest Betfred, and on a Sunday it stays open until 22:00.
