The Moor and Fitzalan Square close at 21:30 and 20:30. Most of the other twelve are neighbourhood shops that close at 20:30 or 21:00 and at 18:00 on a Sunday — except Woodhouse, which stays open until 21:30 on a Sunday, later than on any other day of its week.

Fitzalan Square runs 08:00 to 20:30 Monday to Saturday and 09:30 to 19:30 on a Sunday. The Moor opens at 08:30 and closes at 21:30 on weekdays, 20:30 on a Saturday and 19:30 on a Sunday. For a later bet in the centre, the Ladbrokes and Jennings on Haymarket, a few steps from Fitzalan Square, both trade until 22:00. Distances are straight-line estimates from the Town Hall. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.
Sheffield Betfred opening times compared
The full weekly pattern for all seventeen branches in one table, nearest the city centre first. Today’s column is highlighted.
The table sorts itself into three kinds of shop. The late three — Hillsborough, Darnall and Firth Park — run 08:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday. The two city-centre shops close between 20:30 and 21:30. The twelve neighbourhood shops mostly open at 09:00, close at 20:30 or 21:00, and shut at 18:00 on a Sunday. Betfred Sheffield bank holiday opening times
Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all seventeen Sheffield branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.
On the other bank holidays, Sheffield branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, which would take up to two hours off the Sheffield branches. Dates in the tables below update automatically.
Easter opening times
Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Sheffield branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.
| Day | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Good Friday | Friday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal weekday times |
| Easter Saturday | Saturday before Easter Sunday | — | Normal Saturday times |
| Easter Sunday | First Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March | — | Normal Sunday times |
| Easter Monday | Day after Easter Sunday | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
May and August bank holidays
The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before; a 20:00 bank holiday close would take up to two hours off the Sheffield branches.
| Bank holiday | Falls on | Next date | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early May bank holiday | First Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Spring bank holiday | Last Monday in May | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
| Summer bank holiday | Last Monday in August | — | Weekday opening, possible 20:00 close |
Christmas and New Year opening times
The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Sheffield times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.
| Day | Date | Next date | Usual pattern in Sheffield |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | 24 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | — | Closed all day, every shop |
| Boxing Day | 26 December | — | Normal opening, close around 20:00 |
| Substitute bank holiday | When 25 or 26 December falls on a weekend | — | Normal times for that day |
| New Year’s Eve | 31 December | — | Normal opening, early close around 18:00 |
| New Year’s Day | 1 January | — | Later start around 10:00, close around 20:00 |
Each Sheffield branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.
How the live opening times work
Everything live on this page reads the clock in Sheffield (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.
The panel at the top
The top panel covers the two city-centre branches, on The Moor and Fitzalan Square. It tells you how many are open right now and how long until they close. The other fifteen have their own live rows in the sections below.
The shop rows
Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.
Map, directions and Street View
Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all seventeen Sheffield branches.
Betfred across the rest of Sheffield
Fifteen more branches serve the rest of the city: six in the north, from Hillsborough and Firth Park to Parson Cross and Southey; four in the east, from Darnall to Woodhouse and Crystal Peaks; and five in the south, from Arbourthorne and Gleadless to Woodseats and Lowedges.

Firth Park and Darnall trade until 22:00 every day, with a Paddy Power and William Hill close by on Bellhouse Road and a William Hill and Paddy Power close by on Main Road. Crystal Peaks sits in the shopping centre at Waterthorpe, the furthest of the seventeen from the city centre.
Betfred near Sheffield
Sheffield’s Betfred count depends on where you draw the boundary, and directory sites draw it wide.
Directory sites list 24 “Sheffield” Betfreds. Seven of them are outside the city: three in Rotherham (Bridgegate, Wickersley and Thrybergh), two in Barnsley (Peel Square and Queen Street) and two in Worksop. All seventeen on this page are Sheffield City Council shops. Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster are covered on their own pages.
All seventeen branches are licensed by Sheffield City Council. If you are heading for Stocksbridge, Chapeltown or Dronfield rather than Sheffield itself, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the seventeen.
Other bookmakers in Sheffield
William Hill is the biggest name in Sheffield, with nineteen shops to Betfred’s seventeen.
William Hill has nineteen shops across the city, including Earl Street and West Street in the centre, Bradfield Road in Hillsborough, Bellhouse Road, Herries Road, Main Road in Darnall and Crystal Peaks. Ladbrokes has five, among them Haymarket, Matilda Street and Cross Street in Woodhouse; Paddy Power three; Coral two, including St Paul’s Parade; and Jennings one, on Haymarket.
We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Sheffield, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. In the city centre the Haymarket shops trade later than either Betfred; in Darnall and Firth Park the Betfreds match their neighbours at 22:00. Every bookmaker in the city is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Sheffield has seventeen branches, second only to William Hill, and most of them are neighbourhood shops rather than city-centre ones.
For visitors, The Moor is the one to know in the centre, open until 21:30 on weekdays and the nearest Betfred to Bramall Lane. For Sheffield Wednesday, Middlewood Road in Hillsborough is a short walk from the ground and open until 22:00 Monday to Saturday.
