Three of Weymouth’s four Betfreds sit within a fifth of a mile of each other, and on a Sunday they part company completely. 12 Frederick Place stays open until 22:00; the Esplanade, about 120 yards away, and St Thomas Street, about 350, both shut at 18:00. Dorchester Road, inland at Radipole, never trades past 21:30 on any day.

Frederick Place runs 08:30 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 22:00 on a Sunday, the only Weymouth Betfred open that late on a Sunday. The Esplanade and St Thomas Street both run 09:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 18:00 on a Sunday. There is a Ladbrokes further along St Thomas Street at number 74, open until 22:00, and a William Hill next door to the Betfred on Frederick Place. Distances are straight-line estimates from Frederick Place. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.

Full weekly times are published for all four branches, so this section covers every shop on the page.

Betfred Weymouth bank holiday opening times

Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all four Weymouth branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.

On the other bank holidays, Weymouth branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred’s own shop notices have stated that all its shops close at 20:00 on bank holiday Mondays, which would take two hours off each of the three. Dates in the tables below update automatically.

Easter opening times

Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Weymouth branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

May and August bank holidays

The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before; a 20:00 bank holiday close would take up to an hour off the Weymouth branches.

All three fall on a Monday, so the dates shift each year.

Christmas and New Year opening times

The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Weymouth times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.

The Christmas Day closure is a licence condition under the Gambling Act 2005. Next dates update automatically.

Each Weymouth branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.

How the live opening times work

Everything live on this page reads the clock in Weymouth (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.

The panel at the top

The top panel covers the Frederick Place branch, the most central of the four and the only one open to 22:00 on a Sunday. The other three have their own live rows below.

The shop rows

Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.

Map, directions and Street View

Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all four Weymouth branches.

Betfred across the rest of Weymouth

One more branch serves the inland side of the town: 178 Dorchester Road, about a mile and a quarter from the harbour at Radipole.

Directions work without this. Sharing your location re-orders every list nearest-first.

    1.3 mi from Frederick Place · Mon–Fri 08:30–21:30 · Sat 08:30–20:30 · Sun 09:00–20:30

Dorchester Road is the only Weymouth Betfred that never reaches 22:00: 21:30 on weekdays, 20:30 on a Saturday and 20:30 on a Sunday. It is also the only shop on this site that closes earlier on a Saturday than on a weekday. The Coral at 62 Dorchester Road matches it exactly on weekdays, 08:30 to 21:30.

Betfred near Weymouth

One of the four is filed under Dorchester on directory sites, so most listings show only three.

12 Frederick Place appears on directory sites under the Dorchester post town rather than Weymouth, which is why their Weymouth pages count three shops instead of four: its own listing page is even titled “Betfred Dorchester”, though the DT4 postcode is in the middle of Weymouth, a couple of minutes from the harbour. The licensing register lists all four under Dorset Council, and Frederick Place publishes full weekly times, so it has a live row here.

All four branches are licensed by Dorset Council, which also covers Dorchester, Bridport and Portland. If you are heading for Radipole, Upwey or Wyke Regis rather than the harbour, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the four.

Other bookmakers in Weymouth

Ladbrokes has the most betting shops in Weymouth.

Ladbrokes has two shops in Weymouth, on St Thomas Street and Westham Road, both open until 22:00; Coral has one on Dorchester Road, 08:30 to 21:30; and William Hill one on Frederick Place, next door to the Betfred. Betfred has four of the town’s eight betting shops.

We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Weymouth, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Every bookmaker in the town is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about 250 miles north. Weymouth has four branches, three of them within a fifth of a mile of each other.

For visitors, 76 Esplanade is the easiest to find, facing the beach, but it closes at 18:00 on a Sunday. 12 Frederick Place, a couple of minutes towards the harbour, is open until 22:00 every day of the week.

Frequently asked questions

How many Betfred shops are there in Weymouth?
Four, all licensed by Dorset Council: 12 Frederick Place, 76 Esplanade and 40b St Thomas Street in the town centre, and 178 Dorchester Road about a mile and a quarter inland at Radipole. Directory sites list only three for the town, because the Frederick Place shop is filed under the Dorchester post town.
What time does Betfred close in Weymouth?
Frederick Place, the Esplanade and St Thomas Street all close at 22:00 Monday to Saturday; Dorchester Road at 21:30 on weekdays and 20:30 on a Saturday. On a Sunday only Frederick Place stays open to 22:00: the Esplanade and St Thomas Street shut at 18:00 and Dorchester Road at 20:30.
What time does Betfred open in Weymouth?
Frederick Place and Dorchester Road open at 08:30 Monday to Saturday; the Esplanade and St Thomas Street at 09:00. On a Sunday Frederick Place and Dorchester Road open at 09:00 and the other two at 10:00.
Which Betfred in Weymouth is open latest on a Sunday?
12 Frederick Place, until 22:00. The Esplanade shop is about 120 yards away and St Thomas Street about 350, and both close at 18:00 on a Sunday, so after six in the evening Frederick Place is the only one open in the centre.
Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision.
Do any Weymouth Betfreds keep the same hours?
Yes. 76 Esplanade and 40b St Thomas Street keep identical weeks: 09:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 18:00 on a Sunday.
Why do some listings show only three Betfred shops in Weymouth?
Because 12 Frederick Place is filed under the Dorchester post town on directory sites rather than Weymouth, even though its DT4 postcode is in the middle of Weymouth. It is in the licensing register under Dorset Council and publishes full weekly times, so it has a live row on this page.
Which Betfred is nearest Weymouth beach and the harbour?
76 Esplanade faces the beach, and 40b St Thomas Street and 12 Frederick Place are both a couple of minutes from the harbour. Dorchester Road is the one for Radipole and Upwey.
How do I find the nearest Betfred to me in Weymouth?
Tap “Use my current location”. Every list on this page then re-orders nearest-first, and the directions button at the top routes you to the closest of the four Weymouth shops.
