The Wirral post town has no single centre, and its five Betfreds are spread right across the peninsula: Hoylake and Bromborough are more than nine miles apart. Moreton is the latest-closing at 21:30 six days a week; Pensby, Higher Bebington and Bromborough keep identical hours from Monday to Saturday; and Hoylake keeps the shortest week of the five. Nothing here trades past 21:30 on any day.

Betfred in Moreton

    0.0 mi from Moreton · Mon–Fri 09:00–21:30 · Sat 08:30–21:30 · Sun 09:30–21:00

Moreton runs 09:00 to 21:30 Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 21:30 on a Saturday and 09:30 to 21:00 on a Sunday: the only shop in the Wirral post town open past 20:30 on any day. A William Hill and a Ladbrokes both trade on Pasture Road nearby, the William Hill opening an hour later than the Betfred at 10:00. Distances are straight-line estimates from Moreton. Street View opens at the shop’s position, so you may need to turn the view to face the shopfront.

Read down the weekday column and there are three closing times: 21:30 at Moreton, 20:30 at Pensby, Higher Bebington and Bromborough, and 20:00 at Hoylake. Every shop opens at 09:00 on a weekday, so the whole difference from Monday to Friday is at the end of the day.

Earliest and latest Betfred shops in Wirral

Full weekly times are published for all five branches, so this section covers every shop on the page.

Open earliest

All five open at 09:00 on weekdays. On a Saturday Moreton opens at 08:30, the earliest of the week anywhere on this page, and the other four at 09:00. On a Sunday Moreton and Hoylake open at 09:30 and the other three at 10:00.

Open latest

Moreton closes at 21:30 Monday to Saturday and 21:00 on a Sunday. Pensby, Higher Bebington and Bromborough close at 20:30 on weekdays and 20:00 on a Saturday; Hoylake at 20:00 six days a week.

Later options nearby: because no Betfred here passes 21:30, the latest betting shops in the Wirral post town are the William Hill in Greasby and the Coral in West Kirby, both to 22:00. The Ladbrokes on Church Road in Higher Tranmere also runs to 22:00, just over the boundary in the Birkenhead post town.

Betfred Wirral bank holiday opening times

Betting shops in England can trade on every bank holiday bar one. Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so all five Wirral branches close on 25 December by law rather than by choice.

On the other bank holidays, Wirral branches usually run either their normal times for that day of the week or a slightly shorter day. Betfred’s own shop notices have stated that all its shops close at 20:00 on bank holiday Mondays, which would take ninety minutes off Moreton and half an hour off Pensby, Higher Bebington and Bromborough, leaving Hoylake unaffected. Dates in the tables below update automatically.

Easter opening times

Betting shops have been allowed to open on Good Friday since the Gambling Act 2005 came into force, and there is no Easter Sunday restriction in Great Britain. Across the Easter weekend, expect each Wirral branch to follow its usual pattern for that day.

Easter moves each year. Dates shown are the next Easter weekend.

May and August bank holidays

The early May, spring and summer bank holidays all fall on a Monday. Check the window card or the Betfred shop finder the week before; a 20:00 bank holiday close would take up to an hour off the Wirral branches.

All three fall on a Monday, so the dates shift each year.

Christmas and New Year opening times

The festive fortnight is the only stretch of the year when Wirral times move far from the weekly pattern. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve normally finish early, Boxing Day — the biggest racing day of the winter — runs close to normal, and New Year’s Day starts later.

The Christmas Day closure is a licence condition under the Gambling Act 2005. Next dates update automatically.

Each Wirral branch sets its own festive times and usually posts them in the window from mid-December. The live countdowns on this page follow the standard weekly times and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.

How the live opening times work

Everything live on this page reads the clock in Wirral (UK time), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published times. That keeps the status right even if you are checking from abroad.

The panel at the top

The top panel covers the Moreton branch, the latest-closing of the five. It tells you whether it is open right now and how long until it closes. The other four have their own live rows in the sections below, and because these shops are miles apart, the location button is the quickest way to find the one that is actually near you.

The shop rows

Open now means the shop is inside its published times and the countdown shows how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.

Map, directions and Street View

Each row has three buttons. Map drops a pin on the shop, Directions plans a route from wherever you are, and Street View shows the street around the shop so you can spot the frontage before you set off. Tap “Use my current location” and the lists re-order themselves so the closest shop is always at the top, and the directions button points to the nearest of all five Wirral branches.

Betfred across the rest of Wirral

Four more branches serve the rest of the peninsula: Hoylake in the north-west, Pensby and Higher Bebington in the middle, and Bromborough to the south-east.

Directions work without this. Sharing your location re-orders every list nearest-first.

Their Sundays differ, with Higher Bebington open until 20:00 against 18:00 at the other two. Hoylake is the earliest-closing of the five and the only one whose Saturday is no different from its weekdays.

Betfred near Wirral

The register and current listings disagree about three shops each way.

The copy of the register we hold has four addresses in the Wirral post town and does not include 54 Market Street in Hoylake, though current listings do and its own page confirms the Wirral post town, so we have given it a live row. The register also lists six Betfred shops in the Birkenhead post town and two in Wallasey, all under the same council; those are separate listings and are not on this page.

All five branches are licensed by Wirral Borough Council, which covers the whole peninsula including Birkenhead and Wallasey. If you are heading for West Kirby, Heswall, Greasby or Eastham, use the location button above: the directions button always routes to the nearest of the five.

Other bookmakers in Wirral

Ladbrokes has the most betting shops in Wirral.

In the Wirral post town William Hill has four shops, and Coral and Ladbrokes one each. The William Hill in Greasby and the Coral in West Kirby both close at 22:00, later than any Betfred here; the William Hill on Pasture Road in Moreton matches the Betfred’s 21:30 but opens an hour later, at 10:00.

We are still confirming full weekly times branch by branch for the non-Betfred shops in Wirral, so they are not listed with live status on this page yet. Every bookmaker in the town is closed on Christmas Day by law.

Betfred began in Salford in 1967, when brothers Fred and Peter Done opened their first betting shop, and it runs its estate from Birchwood in Warrington, about twenty-five miles east. Wirral Borough Council licenses ten Betfred shops in all; five of them carry the Wirral post town and appear on this page.

For visitors, it depends which end of the peninsula you are on: Hoylake and Moreton for the north-west coast and West Kirby, Pensby and Higher Bebington for the middle, Bromborough for the south-east. Moreton is open latest, until 21:30 Monday to Saturday.

Frequently asked questions

How many Betfred shops are there in the Wirral post town?
Five, all licensed by Wirral Borough Council: 233 Hoylake Road in Moreton, 54 Market Street in Hoylake, 407 Pensby Road in Pensby, 120 Teehey Lane in Higher Bebington and 118 Allport Road in Bromborough. Birkenhead and Wallasey have their own post towns and their own listings, with six and three more Betfred shops between them.
What time does Betfred close on the Wirral?
Moreton is the latest at 21:30 Monday to Saturday and 21:00 on a Sunday. Pensby, Higher Bebington and Bromborough close at 20:30 on weekdays and 20:00 on a Saturday, and Hoylake at 20:00 every day except Sunday. Nothing in the Wirral post town reaches 22:00 on any day.
What time does Betfred open on the Wirral?
All five open at 09:00 Monday to Friday. On a Saturday Moreton opens at 08:30 and the other four at 09:00. On a Sunday Moreton and Hoylake open at 09:30 and the other three at 10:00.
Which Wirral Betfred is open latest?
233 Hoylake Road in Moreton, on every day of the week. It is the only one of the five trading past 20:30, and its 21:00 Sunday close is three hours later than Hoylake’s.
Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision.
Do any Wirral Betfreds keep the same hours?
Pensby, Higher Bebington and Bromborough are identical from Monday to Saturday: 09:00 to 20:30 on weekdays and 09:00 to 20:00 on a Saturday. They part on a Sunday, when Higher Bebington stays open until 20:00 and the other two close at 18:00.
Which Betfred is nearest me on the Wirral?
It depends where you are: these five shops are spread right across the peninsula, and Hoylake and Bromborough are more than nine miles apart. Tap “Use my current location” and every list on this page re-orders nearest-first.
Are the Birkenhead and Wallasey shops on this page?
No. Wirral Borough Council licenses ten Betfred shops in total, but Birkenhead (six) and Wallasey (three) are separate post towns with their own listings, so this page covers the five in the Wirral post town.
Is there a later-closing bookmaker on the Wirral?
Yes, a few. The William Hill in Greasby and the Coral in West Kirby both run to 22:00, and the Ladbrokes on Church Road in Higher Tranmere too. Against them, the Betfreds at Hoylake, Pensby and Bromborough all close at 20:00 or 20:30.
Why does the licensing register not list the Hoylake shop?
The copy of the register we hold has four Wirral post-town addresses and does not include 54 Market Street in Hoylake, though current listings do and its own listing page confirms the Wirral post town. We have given it a live row because it publishes full weekly times.
