Betfred is the largest independent bookmaker on the British high street, trading as Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Limited from Birchwood in Warrington. This page lists every one of its 1,426 licensed shops, grouped the way you actually look for them: by country, post town and postcode district, with the licensing council named on each row. Enter a full postcode, a postcode district, or the name of any UK town, city or village and the page ranks the nearest shops by distance, shows how many are open at this moment, and puts their weekly times side by side. 1,405 of the shops also have their own page, linked from every result and from the A to Z directory below, with the full seven-day week, the bank holiday and Christmas tables, and a live countdown to closing.

A word on the times. The live counters cover the 295 shops whose Monday-to-Sunday hours we have checked branch by branch. The remaining rows carry the address, the licensing authority and working map, directions, Street View and Google listing links, but no live status — because an invented opening time is worse than none. Verified times are being added town by town, and the town pages on this site carry the full weekly pattern for every branch they cover.

How to find your nearest Betfred and compare its times

Three ways in, depending on what you know: where you are, which town you want, or a postcode on a letter in your hand.

Search a town

Type the first few letters of a post town into the box above and pick it from the suggestions, which show how many shops each town holds. The panel that opens names the postcode districts covered and the council that licenses them, lists every shop with its live status, and finishes with a table putting all the weekly times side by side so you can see which branch stays open latest.

Search a postcode, whole or partial

A full district such as BL1 or NG1 jumps to the shops in that district. Just the letters — BL, NG, G — opens the whole postcode area, which is the quickest way to scan a city. A full postcode works too: the page reads the outward half and takes you to the district. This matters in places like London, where 129 shops are spread across dozens of districts and the post town alone is too blunt a filter.

Use your location

The location button lists your twelve nearest shops with straight-line distances, closest first, wherever you are in the country. It is the fastest route if you are away from home or on the edge of a town where the nearest branch sits under a different post town — a common problem in Greater Manchester, the Black Country and outer London. Your position is used in the browser to sort the list and is not sent anywhere.

Every shop row carries four links: Map drops a pin, Directions plans a route from where you are, Street View opens the street so you can spot the frontage, and Google listing opens that branch’s Google entry, which is worth checking for shops whose weekly times we have not yet verified.

Every Betfred shop, with its own opening times page

All 1,426 shops, A to Z by post town. 1,405 of them have their own page carrying the full week, the bank holiday tables, a live open or closed panel and the nearest alternative branches. Open a letter, then a town, and tap a shop to go straight to its page. The search box at the top of this page does the same job from a postcode or a place name.

What Betfred opening times actually look like

There is no single chain-wide pattern, which is the main reason this site exists. Across the branches verified so far, the spread is wide enough that assuming a shop’s hours from its neighbour is a mistake.

At the early end, the two Betfred shops in Coventry city centre open at 07:30 Monday to Saturday, and the Hove branch in Brighton opens at 07:30 on a Saturday. At the late end, a long list of city-centre shops close at 22:00, and a handful hold that time seven days a week: Kemptown in Brighton and Croydon High Street both run 08:00 to 22:00 every single day, Sunday included. At the other extreme, both Dudley shops close at 20:00 all week, and Darlington’s town-centre pair shut at 19:30 on a Sunday.

Sunday is where the variation bites hardest. Some towns treat it as a normal day — Chelmsford and Cheltenham both keep 22:00 closes — while Castleford and Bury do not open until 10:00, and several suburban shops are shut by 18:00. A few branches invert the usual pattern entirely: Gateshead’s Leam Lane shop trades later on a Sunday than it does midweek, and Betfred’s Lochee branch in Dundee keeps the same 21:30 close on all seven days.

The other lesson from the verified data is that the town centre is not always the latest option. In Derby the two 22:00 Sunday shops are both suburban, and the Market Place branch shuts at 20:00. In Gateshead the town-centre shop closes at 18:00 on a Sunday while Bensham, three quarters of a mile away, runs to 22:00 on weekdays. If you are planning an evening visit, check the branch rather than the town.

Bank holidays and Christmas across the estate

One closure is required by law and applies to all 1,426 shops. Everything else is a local decision.

Premises licences issued under the Gambling Act 2005 carry a condition that gambling facilities cannot be provided on Christmas Day, so every Betfred shop in the country is closed on 25 December. This page enforces that automatically: on Christmas Day every row shows as closed regardless of its published hours.

On the other bank holidays shops trade, usually on normal or slightly shortened hours. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, and its own shop notices for Scotland have said the same, so a branch that normally runs to 22:00 may finish two hours early. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve typically close early, and New Year’s Day opens later.

Individual shops set their own festive hours and usually post them in the window from mid-December. The live status on this page follows each shop’s standard weekly pattern and the Christmas Day closure only, so check the window card before travelling on 24, 26 or 31 December or 1 January.

How the live times on this page work

Everything live here reads the clock in the UK (Europe/London), not the clock on your device, and compares it against each shop’s published weekly times. That keeps the status right whether you are in Manchester or abroad.

The counters at the top

They cover the 295 shops with verified Monday-to-Sunday times. You get the number open at this moment, which shop is next to close and when, and how long the last of them has left tonight. The bar underneath shows what proportion of that group is trading. After the last close the counters wait for the next morning’s opening.

The area panels

Search a town or postcode and the panel repeats the same calculation for that area alone: how many shops with published times are open, which is next to close, and how many shops in the area have no confirmed times. The comparison table below the list puts each branch’s Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours side by side, with today’s column highlighted and its current status in the final column. Panels refresh every minute, so a countdown left open stays accurate.

The shop rows

Open now means the shop is inside its published times, with the countdown showing how long is left. Closed shows when it opens next. Times not published means we have no verified hours for that branch. Counters stop taking cash bets a few minutes before closing so staff can settle slips, so if you are collecting winnings, aim to arrive ten minutes before the time shown.

Frequently asked questions

How many Betfred shops are there in the UK?
1,426 licensed Betfred betting shops, all trading as Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Limited and listed on this page. They sit in 515 post towns and 940 postcode districts, licensed by 320 different local authorities: 1,259 in England, 100 in Scotland and 67 in Wales.
Are all these shops open right now?
The counter at the top of the page tracks the 295 shops whose full weekly times we have verified branch by branch. It reads the clock in UK time, works out which shops are inside their published hours, and counts down to the next closing. The other shops are listed with their address, licensing authority and map links but no live status, because we would rather say nothing than guess an opening time.
Why do some shops show “times not published”?
Because we have not been able to confirm that branch’s Monday-to-Sunday hours from a source that publishes them shop by shop. Verified times are being added town by town, and every town page on this site carries the full weekly pattern for the branches it covers. Until a branch is confirmed, its row links to Google Maps and its Google listing, which may carry current hours.
How do I find the Betfred shops near me?
Tap “Use my current location” and the page lists your twelve closest shops, nearest first, with distances and live status for any that publish times. Nothing is sent anywhere: the calculation happens in your browser.
Can I search by a partial postcode?
Yes. Type the outward part of a postcode — BL1, NG1, G42, SW9 — and the page jumps to every shop in that district. Type just the letters, such as BL or NG, and you get the whole postcode area. You can also search by post town, and the suggestions list shows how many shops each area holds.
What time do Betfred shops usually open and close?
It varies far more than people expect. Across the branches verified so far, weekday opening runs from 07:30 in Coventry to 09:00 in several suburban shops, and closing from 20:00 in Dudley to 22:00 in most city centres. Sunday is the most variable day of all: some shops open at 08:00 and trade to 22:00, others open at 10:00 and shut at 18:00. Always check the individual shop rather than assuming a chain-wide pattern.
Is Betfred open on Christmas Day?
No. Every betting shop in Great Britain is closed on Christmas Day. It is a condition attached to premises licences under the Gambling Act 2005, not a company decision, so this page shows every shop as closed on 25 December regardless of its normal hours.
Are Betfred shops open on bank holidays?
Yes, every bank holiday except Christmas Day. Betfred has in past years announced a chain-wide 20:00 close on bank holiday Mondays, so a shop that normally trades to 22:00 may finish two hours early. Scotland’s calendar differs: Easter Monday is not a bank holiday there and the summer holiday falls on the first Monday in August.
Where does the shop list come from?
The addresses, postcodes and licensing authorities come from the Gambling Commission’s premises register for Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Limited, which is why each row names the council that licenses it. Map positions are derived from the postcode; a handful of rows marked “approx. position” fall back to the centre of their postcode district.

Accuracy. Shop addresses, postcodes and licensing authorities are taken from the Gambling Commission premises register. Opening times are compiled from publicly available sources and reflect the standard weekly pattern for each branch; they are provided for guidance and can change without notice. Where a branch’s times have not been verified, this page says so rather than estimating them. Confirm with the shop before travelling.
